Is there a chica friendly hotel with a pool in downtown SJO? I'll be traveling to CR for the time and I would appreciate any suggestions.

LaSabana Apartotel has not been chica friendly for a long time, they now even have a sign posted. Very nice kitchenette apartments though with decent free breakfast, fairly quiet, quieter than most; laundry, iron and board available, fax and computer in meeting room, maybe wireless in the rooms now, not sure. Ways around the chica thing but it's not worth the hassle and it is a litttle far from the gulch if you are going to go back and forth to the room a couple of times a day like I always do. I think, not sure anymore, that the Barcelo chain hotel, the Palacio? close to Sabana, google Bacelo San Jose, CR, will let you bring one for a fee and they have a fantastic, big pool with food and drink cabana, and it's a very nice hotel, big, but again not close to the gulch. They also have a small 8-10 room companion hotel (Rincon de Valle?) in Sabana that is somewhat chica friendly and then you can use the bigger hotel's pool and gym, again, that was years ago. I love pools but actually never really spend much time by the pool in SJ, even in January. A good chance you're not going to get home until 3 or 4 am.

Hotel Europa (3rd st and ave 5) has good prices, is centrally located and has a pool. They also have free breakfast, a casino, happy hour in the lounge and nice friendly staff.

I know they are not on the VIP discount list, but I like staying there anyway.

Doesn't Hotel Santo Tomas have a pool? Seems the jury is out on chica friendly or not. Great location though.

I think Hotel M doesn't really have a pool, but they have a small outdoor jacuzzi with a sun bathing area as I recall.

Yes you are right, Hotel Santo Tomas has a pool. My wingman and my own personal experiences were mixed during our stay. We only stayed one night, with only one guest each. I had no issues but he almost did even though her name was also on the reservation. It was resolved to his satisfaction but I think you could have a problem bringing different girls in. It may also depend on who's at the front desk.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you are staying with your "novia." It's also bookable online, we only stayed there to take advantage of an orbitz promotion that saved us $500 each for future travel. The room rate was $50, so with the promotion it was worth booking even if you didn't stay there.

The Corobici (Crowne Plaza) has a really nice pool. My guess is that it is NOT chica friendly.

The Hotel Irzau (Best Western) has one too. About 23-24 years ago some electrical wires in the pool lighting were exposed and at least one person got fried.

And of course there is the Holiday Inn with the only covered-heated pool in San José. Definitely NOT chica friendly.

I think this statement is very true. I was given a tour of the hotel by the owner several years ago.....it looked great and there is a nice little pool out by the bar/restauarant. The owner indicated to me that if I used discretion, bringing chicas to the hotel would be no problem. :) However, I was picking up 'negative vibes' from the people at the front desk. :|
