Ok, I booked the standard regular room-Courtyard in the SL for four nights in Sept. (on waiting list for the fifth night...$60 with the CRT discount, I believe). However, now I'm wondering if it's going to be too noisy for me. At what time does it get quiet and when does the noise pick up again? (Does it pick up when the bar/restaurant opens up again ... And when does that happen? In the morning?)

Thanks for the info. Do I have to jump to the standard deluxe room deluxe room at $100 in order to ensure a quiet time? I'm just trying to figure out how noisy it's going to be or if I should just stay somewhere else that's quieter.

Thanks for any info. I've been trying to contact the Castillo, but can't reach them. Poor customer service from that hotel. No way that should happen.

Thanks!

When SL first opened, only a handful of courtyard rooms and a 3 bedroom annex comprised the total accommodations at SL. Back then, noise in the courtyard was not much of an issue. Since its grand-opening, the number of rooms has tripled and the bar supersized... so courtyard noise is an issue now. If noise bothers you, and you want to stay at SL, you will have to opt for the high-priced rooms in the new or mansion wings. If these room rates are more than you care to spend, then I would recommend booking at a place like Hotel Castillo. Darren at the Castillo will eventually confirm your reservation. However, if you're impatient, invest in a phone call and you can speak with him in person. Hotel La Amistad is also another nice back-up, but you may have to deal with noisy trains at this location. Good luck, Red.

In my humble opinion, the only place in the gulch that is quiet is the Sleep Inn, third floor facing the Colonial.

I personally would book a room in the Mansion or Modern Wing if available.

I would stick with the SL courtyard room over the Castillo or Amistad.

I would only consider another hotel if the SL is full.

And then it would be Hotel Little Havana

Ah, Planenutz... Exactly the kind of comparison I was lookin' for!! And thanks to the rest of you guys and to Bill who was kind enough to send me two PMs to help me sort out my decision!! See, I've only been to SJ once ...stayed at the Dunn Inn..it was fine. I spent tome at the SL and the usual MPs including HLH, etc. And the DR. I do wear wax earplugs when noise bothers me, so that may be enough! I'm still decidin'..... ;)

Since the courtyard is right next to where all the action is it's assumed to be noisy in those rooms and probably can be. But during the hrs. when most people are sleeping it's usually quiet enough. I have never stayed in the courtyard area, but I know people who have and they think it's a great deal and wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Also the clubhouse area which is up front , (you get there by making a right past the front desk after you walk in,) has 3 rooms which I beleive are priced the same as the courtyard, or close to it, and it is out of the way and quiet. I have stayed there and enjoyed it.

Those rooms are noisy ... if you want to go to bed at 9:30 pm or if you want to sleep in real late... there is the breakfast set up racket... that room by the kitchen must be a bitch

For such a short trip I would stay there in any room.... the only other thing about the Courtyard room is... guys at the bar will time you on how long you last with the chica :o :D

See you there Red 10... I will be watching

Hi Lomo,

Thanks for your response. I am leaning towards just keeping the four nights at the standard regular courtyard room(with hopefully someone's cancellation opening up a fifth). All that are available are the courtyard rooms according to the front desk. Bill was nice enough to respond to me and even be honest and say they can be noisy, and even offer Castllo's #, but (1) I will only be sleeping probably
after 1 am or so and (2) I always take along and often wear wax earplugs which filters a lot of noise and (3) I might as well experience it and next time will know!

I will have to book the one night somewhere else in case they can't find a room for me on the 9th. If anyone has a valid email for the Castillo, please share it. No response from them. I' m not sure how much it costs to just call down there or if I need to get a calling card, etc. Or if their on-line reservation form even works.

Thanks for everyone's help. I really appreciate it!!

Red
