After a session with a a Tica, I was hungry. I told her I was going to go eat and she wanted to come. We ate at SL and had Steak. She couldn't finish it and told me Costa Ricans aren't used to eating that much meat with meals. I asked her if she wanted to take it home. She gave an embarrassing laugh like that wasn't a very proper thing to do. However, she really wanted her half steak. After telling me she was too embarrassed to ask the waitress, I told her to say it was for her dog. She replied, "I don't have a dog. But, that was a good idea."

Finally, she asked to take it home, and told me with great surprise that the waitress said "yes!" She then told me I should have asked because I am an American. I told her she didn't give me time as she asked the waitress before I could.

So, is it poor manners to ask to take the remaining food home in Costa Rica? Even if it is for your "dog?"

I have never heard them say that they don't want a doggie bag.

It sounds like your amiga was a little self-conscious. From my experience, asking to wrap up an unfinished meal has never been an issue...even in places outside the gulch.

Ok, self-conscious it is. The way she was acting, I thought I was introducing a new custom.

Nope, definitely not, especially since meat is more of a luxury item down there than up here. She is just inexperienced and self conscious. Even at high end restaurants such a request is the norm.

Ok, maybe I will text her and ask how she liked her meat. Errrr steak, that is.

I took my first Costa Rican girl to dinner a week ago. She wanted her "surf and turf" boxed up (she ordered the most expensive thing on the menu - go figure). My guess is that "doggie bags" are the norm. She was playing innocent.

You can't wear shorts and grey tennis shoes to the park on the hottest day of the year. You cant ask for food to go. You cant screw with the lights on. Whats the world coming to ?

Not sure what to say... never bought a steak for a hooker. Gave one some old tuna salad I had in my fridge once. But it was literally 2 weeks old and she gobbled it down like a ferrel dog. LMAO

She didn't want to appear "low-class". People with money can afford to leave leftovers. Appearance is a big issue with these girls.

BTW, where did you get your surf and turf? Was it any good? This chica never had lobster. I think she said she didn't eat beef that often either.

People always ask for para llevar, definitely a normal thing to do. Pac55 is spot on about not wanting to come off as lower class.
