You know, I started going there over 10 years ago. I especially enjoyed the Ceasar salad with chicken and a couple of other items. Good coffee drinks and some nice waitresses. Their quality seemed to start steadily declining like 5 years ago. Had become only good for a people watching spot.

Remember those included desayunos with the made to order omeletas? To die for!
I can't help but to feel glad for them though.

I can rememeber when the news cafe was inside and when they built the rail. Most called it the jackhammer problem that went from 7am to 5pm. It took a year or so to jackhammer out the wall to build the rail. The lack of mongers in the hotel has hurt their business

if they drop the guest fee the hive will thrive and the gringos will return.

i had a week planned there and realized the charged a guest fee and dropped it quickly for a CRT friendly site.

What guest fee? To my knowledge they never have charged a guest fee.

They went from one "guest" at a time to a subjective dress code to an outright ban on "guests" but never introduced a fee.

It seems obvious at this stage in their business plan they do not want "the hive to thrive" if the bees in the hive are mongers.

The Presidente never charged a guest fee (I absolve them of that  ) - now there will be no "guests" so any fee issue becomes moot.

The hotel made a business decision - heard lots of reasons why they did so, but for anyone who has seen the progression over the last couple of years or so - none of this comes as a shock.

If you want to be an eco-tourist friendly hotel ONLY you set yourself up in competition with ALL the hotels in SJ.
If you are a monger friendly hotel especially in the gulch then you compete with less than 10 other hotels and you can still attract eco-tourists.
What do the Pres. owners smoke ?????
They have set themselves up for failure.

Not exactly close - fairly long walk or a cab ride - and I would not call their bagels "killer" - unless you consider "Einsteins Bagels" good

If the coffee is great at Bagelmans, that's good to hear. I'll be living right around the corner from them.

As for the new taxes these businesses have to pay - typical government idiocy at work - but that's highly prevalent here in the USA as well.

Its funny - I'm not a coffee drinker - and great coffee is one thing they do well in CR!

(Thats a good area to live IMO - sorta Los Yoses/San Pedro - but not too far from el centro)
