Your boarding pass is where they print if you paid for a carry on bag. Most of the time they aren't paying attention and you shouldn't have a problem. However, Spirit doesn't exactly treat their employees great and some of them seem to enjoy taking out their frustrations on the customers. If you get one of those gate agents be prepared that their carry on bag price goes up to $45 at the gate.

True dat but it has been my frequent experience that especially on crowded flights, you will be offered free bag checking at the gate due to Spirit's desire to turn the plane around more quickly. NOTE: my experience was before they imposed carry-on fees though that was the purpose of those fees as much as gaining additional incremental revenue.

Spirit's carry-on policy has resulted in the overhead bins being only about half full on the flights i have been on. They have successfully forced most people to check their bags.

I use a backpack and can get it on the plane at FLL easily as a personal item...SJO tambien. In MDE they scrutinize it pretty close and will measure it. for any trip over 4 days its hard not to check a bag IMO.

Seats don't need to be bought in advance going out of the US unless you are a big guy and need the big front seat. I almost always get the seat i want at the kiosk at check-in. Coming back from SJO or MDE can be trickier because you need to see an agent bags or no. If you are running late you may end up in the middle, which on spirit is very tight

...That is a free bag that is supposed to fit under the seat.......Don't forget to use up your miles(5000 off peak) if you have the old card, as the end of the month you will have to get new card and be in $9 club to use 5000 miles for off peak.....

It will say "no-carry on" somewhere on your boarding pass... a backpack worn on your back should pass any scrutiny at FLL. Sometimes there are agents at the beginning of the line entering the security check area and they will check your boarding pass. Once I had a backpack AND a computer bag and got some grief...had to shove the computer bag into the backpack... other than that never a problem. I even took a photo of all my bags under the seat in front of me on my phone in case they is a question. Spirit makes a nice coin phucking everyone at the counter with oversized and overweight luggage...KA-CHING !

It is the catergory, group, section, or whatever they call it. All passengers with carry-on are in group 1. The rest of the passengers are in groups 2 - 5, or whatever the highest number is. If the gate agent isn't paying attention to the group number on your boarding pass, then you are good.

Last time I paid for a carry-on bag my boarding pass had 4 letters printed on it (I forget the exact letters) maybe something like PCAR. My friend didn't purchase a carry-on and his pass didn't have anything in the section where the letters were printed on mine. Big front seats (and maybe exit row) will also be group 1.

Even with all the extra charges, they were cheaper by about $100 when I last flew them. However, their service was terrible. So if you want cheap with shitty service fly Spirit...

For all of the Spirit fans...

Spirit will be adding a boarding pass charge starting November if an agent has to print a boarding pass. It will cost you $5... Printing will still be free at a kiosk...until 2012 when it will cost $1.

The restroom fees will be next...

I've never flown Spirit and can comfortably say I don't see it happening any time in the future.

I got screwed and booked Spit Air for my next trip to CR in Aug. I know there have been posts on this before, but info is contradictory. So what is the best way to get out of or get lower carry on fees? I have one peice that can't fit under the seat.

You could join their "$9 Fare Club" - but you have to factor in the cost - and not at all worth it if you don't plan on flying them in the future (for a carryon - and they might have rased the price) I think you only save like $10 vs the normal carry on cost.

Despite posts somewhat to the contrairy, you can't get around the fee - if you check in at the counter w/ a checked piece, they are going to nail you for the carry on fee, and if you just go to the security line w/ a carry on, and a pre printed boarding pass, they will check your boarding pass to see if the carry on has been paid for (Its so noted on the boarding pass  ) - at least they have every time at Ft Lauderdale.

Frankly, its not worth the hassle - know in advance Spirit's published fare is just the start of the cost(s) and check other airlines who nickle and dime a little less.

A word about the $9 club...if you use Spirit alot it's a good deal, but the raised the price last year by $20, it is automatically charged to your bank account annually and you have to put it in writing to cancel it.
