Which brings me back to the heineken question. If it's bottled in SJO but brewed in ams, does it still produce bad hangovers?

If I may be so immodest as to quote myself, here's a thread on another way to enjoy beer. No guarantees that this will reduce length or severity of hangovers though:

hard to say. is any hangover that bad if you are in costa rica? but i have definitely had hangovers that the heineken was involved in. you won't really think its heiny when you first taste it. then again staying under 15 in a night probably could have helped me. but i am able to imbibe like that at home on occasion and don't end up suffering so who knows?

Most of this stuff I already knew, but it's a good reminder. I didn't know the darkness of the alcohol made a difference, there goes my reunion with Jack.

Anyone have rum or vodka drink ideas?

Always pleased to help a Brother--some of these are total foo-foo but there you go:

For vodka, this site should suffice:

Do you guys drink juice with your hard liquor. I like screwdrivers, but does the juice have any effect on hangover prevention?

Never! Beer does not lend itself to moderation in the appropriate environment, such as on vacation in Costa Rica. Also in regard to the question about screwdrivers, the fluid and vitamin C can't hurt.

That seems to be the prevailing "Internet wisdom", but I also read that piña can dehydrate you?????? WTF! So, I get more hungover in an attempt to help out a working girl?

I drink Imperials like (instead of) water when I am down in CR, and I love the shit out of them. But I have brought a few cans back to the States several times and could barely choke one down at home. Kind of weird, actually.

I got back Tuesday night. For the entire trip I draink nothing but screwdrivers with the exception of one imperial and one shot of jäger. I had zerO hangover effect except for the last day because the night before was, well...the last night.

I think that answers my previous question about the effect of OJ on a hangover. I guess it's not a killer.

As to the imperial, I had one with a slice of pizza at costa del sol and could hardly drink it, even with ice. Don't get me wrong, I've got drinking beer down to a science, but tha shit was, well, shit.

[quote="Dapanz1"]Imperial has been available in Central Illinois for at least a year and half. Now, if I could only find Presidentes from the Dominican, I would be super thrilled. Imperial gave me the worst hangover I have ever had in my 46 years of existence on this planet.

Where in Central Illinois did you find it? I have a farm near Starved Rock. I ove it, but I do get wsick from it and I am a beer drinker. Still drink it like a dope.

There is enough bad information in this thread for me to write 3 – 4 pages…

Jazzbo could you please dig up the thread from 4-5 years ago about Imperial? I did a bit more technical explanation then and I don’t have the time today too do it again.

In short…
You will react differently to any alcoholic beverage when you are at altitude. Most of you are coming from sea level and do not realize the difference in SJ.

No commercial beer in the world is shipped in batch and bottled elsewhere. It would bad in a day. Heineken has several breweries worldwide, not really sure which one produces beer for CR. They have one in Thailand, hence the fresh, great tasting and cheap Heiny in Pattaya.

All the “impurities” talk is crap; that is the spin that the high end vodka producers developed to sell more expensive vodka. Beer will rot in the bottle within hours if it has impurities… and you would know it the second you smell it. The problem that beers in CR face, is improper delivery and storage issues… it’s hot on the coast down there.

OBTW, for those who do not know me, I have (had… got out in 04) 20+ years in the Beer Industry and 3 GABF medals.

Mendo
