They don't need this type of business to survive. Lets not overestimate how much pull mongers have. They make up a small percentage of all tourists.

Orange, during my stays the last three years it sure seemed like mongers were about 50% of their business.

The issue of the economic effect of mongers on the Costa Rica economy has been discussed many times. Other then places that cater to mongers such as certain hotels, some bars and of course massage parlors Orange is absolutely correct when he states The Presidente will be around for a long time.

Pull up some threads from a couple of years ago when they implemented the "dress code". Everybody forecasted the end of the Prez then too.

I have to agree. On my stays there in the past it also seemed like half of the hotel guest were mongers. How many mongers would you see the next morning getting their free breakfast in the News Cafe. Some would even have their "working chicas" in tow.

If their business does drop drastically it wouldn't surprise me if they one day allow us back. I personally wouldn't return after all their BS. Not to mention their rates are no longer economical.

I will bet money that Hotel Asia would go under if they quit allowing guests.

The reason that it seemed like mongers made up a higher percentage of the guests than they actually did is because you never saw the tree huggers, either at breakfast or during most of the day. By 7am, the stumpies were in a van on their way to look for wild species of monkeys and some rare frog. And they didn't get back till the late afternoon when you were in an MP or SL. So it seemed like there were many mongers.

Just got back at San Jose. Chicas are now unwelcome...I wont go back, nor will my friends.
I talked to the GM. She told me that I was not the first person to tell he that.

I have to respectfully disagree, I haven't stayed there in about 3 years now, but when I was there it appeared ,based upon my SWAG, the hotel was about 60 to 75% mongers and it was'nt full. Most families stay outside of downtown, I was on van going rafting about 1.5 years ago there was afamily staying at another hotel downtown ,Family friendly, the man told me it was a big mistake staying downtown. Down in late last year Sept? had lunch at the Presd, waiter told me the place was almost empty. He blame it on the time of year.

I respect their decision. One of my business in the USA was in an area deserted by Americans and now populated by people from Mexico.

All of our signs were in Spanish and all of our employees spoke Spanish. The Mexicans paid well, didn't sue us, and were easy to deal with. If a white or black guy walked in, we wouldn't even pay them attention.

I ran that business for 10 years without a single law-suit and cashed out in 2006.

Now of course being a gringo here, I haven't patronized the Presidente, including the restaurant, since they started the clothing policies and are happy to see them closing their restaurant.

Orange, I appreciate what you had to say and to a small degree I would agree but I consider myself an observant person and I still think the percentage of mongers was too high for such a change. They better increase their Eco ads. Tremendously and offer lots of incentives to the bird watches. That big of a drop in gross revenue will be hard to absorb.

In my original post I wanted to use a higher percentage but thought if I kept it more conservative that I would get less argument. Thanks for putting the monger percentage higher.
Most presidente mongers are not CRT they did not care about discounts are chat boards.
