Here's another way to enjoy beer especially suited for hot, sunny days--the shandy. I was introduced to it in Singapore all those years ago. The Mexicans have something similar. Here's the deal--pour a glass 3/4 full of beer then top off with lemonade. Some hip NYC bars have taken this to absurd-sounding conclusions. Here's more:

This similar to something done in Spain. I think they call them claras. Then again, it may be sprite instead of lemonade. Seems to me that the extra sugar would make a hangover worse.

Good point. Another factor I failed to mention is the the beer in Singapore was unpasteurized and only lightly carbonated with freshly-squeezed lemonade (no added sugar)--sure tasted good first to last and got the job done though.

At one time in India ladies were not supposed to drink any alcoholic drinks but the "Shandie" was considered an acceptable ladies drink.
It is really refreshing but usually drunk by women.
Maybe more popular with men these days.

This drink is called a Radler in Germany. Nobody really wants to ruin great German beer, but when the stiff drinking and driving penalities went into effect, it became the teutonic equivalent of "one for the road."

It seems that a brewer is making Shandies now. Born in the Great North Woods and enjoyed immensely in SWFla: http://leinie.com/home.htm
Here's another site confirming Leinie is the only brewer of this so far: http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthr ... ndy-radler << terrif Website for all things male.
