Last time I flew Spirit (3 weeks ago) they were offering the Big Front Seat IN FLIGHT for $50. WTF.

That's smart thinking. I wonder why all airlines wouldn't since it's 100% profit. There's 0 overhead (but the meal costs a couple bucks). I guess airlines don't want to make this a regular thing because maybe they figure people will stop buying biz class tickets if they think they can get it on board for $50.

I just wanted to bump this thread and encourage any newbies to buy a VIP membership. Not only does it keep this board going but you will save some serious coin in the long (and short) term. Perfect example... this is my first trip down since I bought a VIP membership and it saved me $155 on my 9 night stay at the La Amistad. That's over a cien savings right there after the cost of the membership... enough for another session or two.

I hate to be the one to report this, but on my previous trip, I learned the hard way that Holiday Inn now charges $80.

So you were ok with paying $70 or did you not know that it was that high to begin with?

They're hypocrites, just like AM Costa Rica. They're against prostitution, but as long as the guest pays their ridiculous elevator fee, they are willing to overlook their moral objections, the same way AM Costa Rica has a half-page ad for Del Rey when they claim they are against prostitution.

Has anybody noticed any other things in the thread that need to be updated? Sorry, but I don't go to CR as often these days, so I can't keep up with the changes as well.

Orange,

Just want to say MUCHAS GRACIAS for all the info in your post - this along with all the other intel I was able to glean from the rest of the brothers on this forum were a HUGE help in planning and enjoying my first trip to San Jose. Hope I get the chance to thank you in person someday, over a couple of Imperials with some hot chicas of course. 8)

Thanks for this great post. My flight gets in around 8:30PM. Will the bank in departures be open to exchange?

If you want to buy a prepaid SIM chip for your cell phone, they are open until 10pm also. They are located in the baggage claim area, next to carousel #1.

Thanks Orange. My cel doesn't have a SIM. I'm thinking either go without or maybe rent?

With pre-paid now available, renting a cell is one of the biggest rip-offs in Costa Rica. They charge $10/day. For $10, you can talk for a month on a prepaid.

Bring an unlocked GSM cell phone, quadband just to be safe even though many tri-bands will work. You can buy one on Ebay for as little as $20-30. The better models are in the $50-60 range.

Buy a prepaid SIM in the baggage claim area for ¢2500 ($5) and it will last you a week for local calls. If you want to make calls to US, buy a ¢5000 or ¢10000 SIM.

Great summary, enjoyed it. I go to Quepos alot, for 13 years, maybe 100x? Used to be dead P4P and a BYO place, now past few years, and really this past 18 months it's really picked up. Two places, next door to each other, bars, LaPescadora and Wacky Wanda's, across the street from the Best Western centro Quepos, has alot of action after dinner, maybe 15-20 Dominicans, Nica's, and a few Tica's, most so so but an occasional 8, 9, 10. I have my non-pro in Londres 15 klicks east, but I dabble in these two gringo joints alot, worth a visit if one didn't BYO. I hit on a solid 9 semi last year there which is how I met her sister, the non-pro.
