I have watched that like 6 times now. That one part, where the Nancy Grace looking bitch says "I AM an air traffic controller", I cry every time.

You guys seem to get a bad rapp alot of times....But, in my family there are three pilots and I understand what you guys do and as stated in this clip.

"You have to be 100%...100% of the time."

That says it all to me. In what other job is that required?

In my work if I had to hold that level of prefection I would be doomed.

Thanks

Tremendous respect for the profession. :)

One of the few jobs out there whereby you are severly limited on the mistakes you can make! And the few problems w/ sleeping vs the number of ATC - but again, shows its a zero tolerance for mistakes profession.

I used to date a nurse that worked night shift at a level one trauma center. When she turned down an offer to make more $ to work for a private cosmetic surgeon, I was surprised and asked why. She responded, "I like to be in the shit". That surprised me coming from from a little 105 pound GA peach .

I would imagine that there are similar rewards having a serious, live career like an ATC.

After 32 years in the biz starting at NAS Miramar I can tell you that ATC has its advantages. Yes, it is stressful if you put yourself in stressful positions. But you really have the autonomy to do your best work and best practices keep the stress and the risk down.

To me, a small business owner has more stress. In ATC, it's all over when you unplug the headset (unless you can't leave it at work). You can be gone for two weeks or longer and it is the same as you left it...and you aren't behind. Yesterday's traffic was yesterday and we start fresh every morning.

So far, the ATC game is absolutely 100% successful: Every plane we sent up, came down. :P

Translation: Yes, Indeed, the level one trauma center to which you referenced in your post is most likely Grady Memorial Public Hospital. That specific care provider center treats a large amount of patients . This patient care load rises on weekends and holidays and surges on occasion for no apparent reason. Many of the patients are repeat patients being treating while still healing from their previous injuries. Some of the patients are mentally ill, drug users, and / or criminals. It is sad that these people's treatments strain the resources meant for the greater good.

If you are a care provider that enjoys a daily challenge, then you may find a career here rewarding. A possible solution is "Soylent Charlie" Heston.

I am a small Business owner and infact have lived the life of stress like nobody's business over the past four years. Being in the construction and Home building industry.

The difference is are ture these guys get to turn it on and off as they punch the clock. While I got to live, eat, sleep and breath my stress. But I choose it and I also reaped the rewards when the times were fat and happy.

These guys have all the stress when they are on and none of the "ata boyz" for a job well done.

In the end we all choose our path and no one is better or worse. just different.
