I finally took the time to review the Spirit Credit Card and it looks pretty good for someone that likes to travel to SJ. Only 2,500 miles for off peak and 2 miles for every dollar spent on the card. I know there are some months that have no off peak slots, but there were other months with plenty of options. I live in South Florida so for me to go for the weekend and and come back is ideal for me.

So I just wanted to see if others have had a bad experience as well. Then I'll just stay away. It just sounds to good to be true.

The old card is dropping the spirit program in about 3 weeks,which is very sudden and i'm not sure i would bother with them again,especially when wank of america is now involved....

I have the original Free Spirit card and keep getting offers for the new one. None of the info I have seen so far discloses the annual fee. Anybody know what that will be?

For Platinum Plus® accounts: $19

The first fee is charged at the end of your 12th billing cycle.

I have their old card (through Barclay's I think) and when I called to cancel before my first year they waived the annual fee for life. One thing I didn't notice in the new BOA card is free membership in their $9 fare club.

Does having their credit card mean they will give you better service?

Well if you look at their business model "screw the poor slob who chooses to fly with us" it would seem reasonable to think their business model for those who choose to have their credit card would be "sorry it is an extra $25.00 if you want us to lube up before we stick it to you".

I have the current/old Spirit Mastercard - the major problem is getting to actually use the miles to get a free flight - I just called them and was told that they would not have any "free" seats until Sept something - I know many flight programs have a lot of blackout dates, but Spirits seem excessive. One good thing it does do is allow you to wait for checkin on a much shorter line, and gives you priority boarding. Their lines can be long!

I'm coming down May 18 - I checked w/ Spirit and the best flight from FLL to SJO was $330 r/t all in (I hate when guys quote the air only portion and don't mention the taxes and fees - just a peeve of mine; you need to pay the tax and fees, WTF do I care what the airline alone is charging )

AA out of Miami was $275 r/t, plus you don't need to pay a luggage fee (for my one carryon) nor do you have to pay to reserve a seat, which as a $9 fareclub member I think adds $20 for the seat, and $30 or $40 for the carryon fee - so the $330 would be really about $380 or so.... over $100 more than AA.

Many airlines have policy's that do not favor the passanger - but Spirit has refined it to an art form - very dangerous business model to claim to be the cheapest, and have a significant portion of the flying public hate you.

....well your no longer gonna be in the $59club as a bonus...so you will then have to pay the annual fee to use your miles.....

AA on international flights allows you not only a free carry-on but also 1 free checked bag and no fee to reserve a seat. They changed the policy from 2 free checked bags and now charge $30.00 for the second bag I believe.

i don't want to say you are wrong but when i sign into my spirit 9 fare club, it says if you charge one time per month then you are automatically in their club and it has a shortcut to the new black spirit b of a card, so i do believe that it is still valid..

you're saying you have to be in the $9 fare club to use your free miles? Are you sure about that? I have 50k Spirit miles & assumed I could use them by just being a member of the Free Spirit ff club. I don't care to pay to be a $9 fare club member after the deal with Barclay's Bank ends in June.

The way I read it the $9 fare club gets you access to the special fares they run (if you can happen to find one that the limited dates work) and reduced baggage fees. Anyone with miles can redeem them for what Spirit calls a "free" flight. Having their MasterCard reduces the miles needed for standard and peak award types, as well as opening up an off-peak award type.
