Soda Peru is a great little place and a good value. It is run by very nice people. In my opinion, the food is better and comes in larger portions than at many of the higher end places.

SUGGESTION: You may have to wait a while for your food if you arrive there between 11:45 am and 1:15 pm, as they do a huge lunchtime business with the INS workers. Several times, my order was put off to the side, to faster accommodate these workers [which I can totally understand and had no problem with]. I know the nice lady who works there felt bad about it, but also understood that the INS workers are their regular customers and on a tight lunch schedule.

Peru Soda is my favorite place to eat in San Jose. They have excllent quality food at a good value. I haven't been to San Jose in the last four or five years without eating there.rbc00

I totaly agree with all the raves that Soda Peru gets. Try the sopa de Meriscos. It is enough (large bowl) for a very filling lunch for under 3000 col. the bowl is full of shrimp, camarones, fish, mussels and more all in a very good broth.

Hank,
On to my Fem side, good recipe, although most people don't know the diff between prawns and shrimp,
and they can't taste the diff, thanks to the global economy, sounds damn good, I'll give this a whack next weekend.

Go hungry and get the extra large- massive amounts of food. If your a hot chile fan, the homemade hot sauce is very, very good. It is tradition to add a bit in...

Sounds like your a bit of a foodie- I would reccomend a trip to Lima one of these days. My favorite eating city, hands down. Happen to love the chicas too- boy I miss Lima.

Soda Peru is such a good place to eat that it should always be first on a newbies list of affordable and good places to eat. Across and just up the street from HLH. It closes at about 3 or 4 pm but excellent place to take a tica. I have enjoyed the food every time and the management is very friendly.

We went there several times on our last trip. I'd walked right by it I don't know how many times on previous trips without even noticing it.

Fantastic food at very reasonable prices. We had the seabass ceviche, arroz con camarones, and a few other dishes I can't remember. They were all very good, especially the ceviche.

I became attatched to this little place when Pops took me here during his tour on my first trip and felt like i overate just by the dish i ordered. Will definitely come back again on the next trip if i can tear myself away from the SL. Lol.

Ate there twice on my recent trip. As always, outstanding food, the best seafood soup I have had in Costa Rica, or anywhere for that matter, and it is a meal in itself. But, the sea bass in garlic sauce is particularly awesome. Great place, but do not go during lunch hour if you are in a hurry, go to Hlh first to work up a nice appetite.
