Anyone ever done this without the use of a rental car? I don't want to take public transit. Anyone know of good transportation services that will go from Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste) to Jaco? I've looked around on the internet, services like "interbus", but figured I would ask here.

Thanks for the response, but I think you might be getting locations mixed up. There is 2 Playa Hermosas in Costa Rica, and if I understand correctly, one is the the Guanacaste province and one in the pacific region (near Jaco).

I will be at the Playa Hermosa in the north, Guanacaste, traveling to Jaco.

Maybe check Gray Line also. I don't know of anything other than private transfer if this and Interbus don't workout...

Ah, thanks. Any idea how much private transportation normally costs?

Wouldn't have any idea on an exact number, but based on other distances, I would say it would be pretty expensive.... At the worst maybe you could get private transfer to the closest spot you could catch Interbus or Gray Line.

Interbus has a bus on that route.

Segment Playa Hermosa to Jaco
Departs at 8:45AM
Arrives at 2:15 PM

It's just under 200 miles. I would say a taxi would run you $150-200 one-way.

When are you going.... I live just a minute or two outside of Playa Hermosa and will be going to Manuel Antonio on Thursday evening or Friday morning of this week.

Thanks for the offer Golfer, but I wont be going until late July/early August.

Thanks to all the suggestions in the thread, although it seems I may change my plans. Instead of going to Jaco at the end of my non mongering trip, I may decide to go the San Jose at the start and then go back to Liberia to continue on with my trip. I do this at the suggestion of a few members. It seems like it would be faster (especially if I take a domestic flight) and may work out better over all.

I am planning on staying at the Sportsmans Lodge, seems like a nice place.

Is the area around the sportsmans lodge okay for walking around alone during the day. I figure if I am in the major city I wouldn't mind exploring a few blocks away from the hotel.
