Costa Rica defeats Panama 2-1 ---
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) - Roy Myrie scored the
decisive goal in the final seconds as Costa Rica beat
Panama 2-1 on Saturday in a silent, empty stadium.
Costa Rica played its CONCACAF World Cup qualifying
match behind closed doors as punishment for unruly
behavior by the team's fans during a match against
Mexico in February.
Myrie, who entered as a substitute in the 65th minute,
scored on a crossing shot that froze goalie Jaime
Penedo.
The 'Ticos' went ahead when Wayne Wilson converted a
penalty five minutes before halftime.
Panama, also attempting to reach their first World Cup
finals, equalized from another penalty in the 58th
minute, converted by Roberto Brown.
The visitors were poised to take a precious point back
home until substitute Roy Myrie eluded several defenders
to grab the winner in the 90th minute.
Costa Rica won despite playing nearly half the match
with 10 men after Jose Luis Lopez was ejected for
accumulation of yellow cards in the 46th minute.

I was there and still don't recall anything other than a few water bottles being thrown
While there certainly was no riot more than a few water bottles were thrown. It's about time soccer started controlling the outburst from fans who are unhappy with the result of a match.
While I do not condone the behavior shown in many NFL football stadiums ( have been to both Philadelphia and Miami home games) certainly the level of violence pails in relationship to some soccer games.
