Thanks
So El Tranquilo did the surgery not help? I swear I get healthier on my visits, my lungs clear up I drop a few pounds all around just feel better, That is another reason I am still considering a move.

The cigars are my passion, I could narrow it down to maybe 3000 but I have been working on this for a lot of years getting so I have quality aged cigars always ready. That's the big hurdle, renting a locker is pretty hard as they take up a lot of room. here is a few pics so you can imagine, if I retired here I would build a walk in but in CR I could store in coolers as you will see.

Thanks for the replies keep them coming please. Collecting Chicas is already a hobby and I want to work on that some more

The first question is will you want to stay here after a year or two ? You cant answer that until you've lived it.

A big concern is will Costa Rica try to confiscate your cigar collection for any reason or for no reason. Or charge you some kind of taxes up to 100% of market value.

I would rent a small apartment here , keep it simple and bring a 3-6 month supply to get your feet wet and see how you feel. There are a few things I really miss about the USA. I am only living here for pu*sy and no other reason.

Yes correct I would never do anything but rent as you said I never know long term what I will like. Guess I need to look into what CR does as far as import charges what's allowed and whats not. Pretty hard to separate me from my cigars but maybe I need to look into someone I can trust to take proper care of them, not something you just leave and comeback to they take some care proper RH and temperature.

I guess I should have clarified I know the basics as far as renting only, 3 month stays ect.. I have read and spoke with expats about that I don't know much about the daily life when living and not on vacation.

I have struggled with the thought of moving to CR in the coming years. However, I always wonder what life is like after the "newness" wears off. What is the picture 5 years after moving down; you've phucked 1000 whores and you're getting bored with that scene. You live in a shithole, with trash and raw sewage dumped straight into the rivers. Not to mention the ever present thievery and dysfunctional culture and corrupt government. For me, I believe it can only be a great place for a get away. Every time I start to believe I want to move down, I just read one of Greengo's posts

I always recommend a six month or so stay using furnished apartments and not buying anything of much value here. I also recommend living in several different areas to see what fits. Language school is a good idea if you do not have much Spanish. Guys all react different to being here for extended periods of time. If you have self control issues they will likely get worse. Most guys that do not buy cars find that the extra walking pay offs health wise. Like all places there is good and bad here. The weather is incredible with amazing nature a short ride away. Obviously the girls are readily availalble. Most guys that live here get involved with a girl here, or series of girls.

A lot of guys struggle with what to do with their time, but I believe these guys would struggle with excess free time back home too. Easing into a permanent move would be prudent.

I personally came here with no real plan, just tired of my career and failed marriages. I have made a life here with good and bad sides just like back home.

This might sound a little jaded but does turn out to be the case, to some degree, for many guys.

The thing I miss lately is just the simple peace of living in the suburbs of Atlanta . I'm talking about a peaceful drive running errands without the rude/idiot drivers and risk of auto theft, mugging, panhandling etc.

I still rather live here than there and have learned to insulate myself from the things I don't want to experience.

Came for a cheaper laid back way of life! Ain't so cheap and laid back as 10 years ago. As soon as I get the money together it is probly off to greener pastures.

This is largely why I sold my interests in CR and moved to Panama. The infrastructure is much more modern, the city exponentionally cleaner and safer. There are hundreds of upscale venues and much, much more social and business opportunities. We do have the corruption and a fair amount of the dysfuctional culture mentioned in the previous post, but it's easier to circumvent here.

Thanks guy's good stuff, what to do is certainly a concern, not much of a world traveler Yet  But I have enjoyed every trip so far and one I stayed almost a month and did want to stay longer. So much of the country I haven't seen yet so a few months I expect I would be thrilled. Just not having to get up to work and the non stress life is a dream I have worked hard my whole life and I am just tired of it.

Is there any chance to make any money. more to keep busy part time than needing it, but a few bucks here and there would ease the burden a bit. I would love to work in cigars. LOL yeah right I know.

Keep em coming guy's!
Dave

Dave, CR law totally forbids the import of cigars - even if you own them for private consumption, you cannot have them in country  .

So......your only aternative is to ship them to me (you have my address! :) :) ) and I'll store them for you - I'll even sample 2/day to make sure they stay fresh and in optimum condition - every few months I'll come down to visit and bring you a few :)

Seriously, best of luck in whatever you decide as far as moving down.

Learn to trade the forex markets... Once mastered, money will not be a problem...

Also, if you have only been to CR and not explored other countries, you may want to wander a bit before putting down roots...

Thanks I was thinking of the 90 day leave for trips to Columbia, and other places. I also have a friend in Bali I want to visit he owns a cigar manufacturing company and does well trading mostly to Europe. some are filtering here and not a bad cigar most don't think Indonesia and cigar at the same time.

I learned fast at day trading I don't have the nerve for that :)

Rules allow 50 cigars for personal use in CR...I was screened at the airport for Wild Rice...convinced them it was precocinado (precooked). Got to keep it.
