The new $100 million gift from China officially opens today with a futbol (soccer) match between china and their poor stepchild,Costa Rica.
My question is 'Will I be able to get into San Jose from Escazu with an expected 35,000 people and 200 parking spaces "at" the stadium." What time does the match start? They have events planned (Shakira, futbol match between CR and Argentina) for the next 2 weeks.

This is today's schedule.

Opening ceremonies by the hour:

1:00pm The doors to the stadium open
5:3opm The singing of the national anthem
5:35pm Former president Oscar Arias will speak for 15 minutes (editor's note: somewhat of a challenge for don Oscar)
5:50pm Speech by the Chinese delegation
6:05pm Speech by Costa Rican presidenta Laura Chinchilla
6:20pm Chinese inauguration act
6:25pm Light show

--- 45 minute pause ----

7:50pm The soccer teams hit the field
8:00pm The FIFA soccer game between Costa Rica and China begins
10:00pm Everyone goes home.

From Escazu I think the best route, to avoid the stadium, would be go through Bello Horizonte and La Auroa to the road that connects to the circumvalcion and then take the circumvalacion to the San Sebastion exit and go north to downtown.

Thinking about hitting the fight with Tica bad-ass Hannah Gabriel looking to kick some gringa ass next Thursday, the 31st. And not surprised, 200-400 parking spots for 35,000 seats

Definitely use the circumnavigation, perhaps on in to Uruca and into downtown. Sure the Pan-American will be full of people going into San Jose as well.

I'd have much preferred to see Costa Rica retain the deal with Taiwan not only for the obvious differences in human rights, freedom, democracy etc. but also for the new highway Taiwan was building from San Ramon to La Fortuna. Nice bridge they built (in the middle of nowhere with no roads leading to/from it) until CR backed out and decided a soccer stadium was better than having a good road to expand tourism in Arenal.
