So I will be in CR and staying at SL from March 30 - April 5th.
I would like to hear from you guys where I can find good Costa Rican food.
Please provide dish names, location of restaurant and cost if possible. Please do not list any Non-Costa Rican foods.
I am interested in tasting "their" dishes. Thanks in advance.

No such thing. It just doesn't exist. Thats why all the Ticos are so slim.

That'd be the plato del dia or casado, rice and beans with chicken, beef or pork, get it at any soda.

Anything else is "international cuisine". :D

If you want a good steak, go to La Esquina de Buenos Aires. Calle 11, 2 blocks north of Bar Idem/Relax. Get Lomo Porcini, tenderloin with creamy mushroom sauce. Great dish. ~8k

If you want good seafood, go to La Princesa Marina. By Sabana Park, all taxistas should know it. They won't get points for decor, but the food is very good. Great ceviche (best in town IMO). ~2k Breaded fish (Empanizado) with mashed potatoes and salad. ~4k

For a good lunch, go to Soda Peru. Up the block (north) from HLH/ZB, yellow building on the right side by the corner of ave 7. Chicarrones de Pescado is my fave dish. It's fried sea bass with yucca and tomoato/onion salad (pico de gallo). ~3.5k

Go to mercado central, pick a place with an available seat and tell them you want what everyone else is eating.

I agree, If you want CR food go to Central Market. Closed on Sunday.

If you are looking for meat in Costa Rica, forget it.

If you like Seafood, you can take the Moravia bus on 3RD Ave. 1/2 block West of Morazan Park, 230 colons, 20 minute ride. Princess Marina at Morovia. The bus stops in front.

I agree with this. I been there a couple of times and have not been disappointed. When I get back next month I will have to check out, La Esquina de Buenos Aires. I am also up for a good steak and try to find one (and a good burger) where ever I travel.
