I remember there is an active volcano you can visit and also check out the hot spring near there all in one tour guide trip.
Anyone know the info to make this reservation and cost?
Oh, I mean in CR :)

I'm also sure you can wait until arrival and tell the hotel what you want. Shouldn't be a problem. You may have to think about hotel cancellation policies if you do that once you've already booked something on San Jose, for example.

Google some places. a lot of places have 800 numbers from the US, etc.

Hope that helps.

baldi spa is really nice. If you stay in the hotel you can go to hot springs any time . not many rooms so easy to fine a private spot for you and that special tica at night in hot springs. Very special trip if you take a girl . I would take a car and eat dinners out, the price is high for lunch and dinner there. Spa is very cheap if you look at it as american price. september is the best time to go to see the volcano.. there are some day trips there too or just relax. price for hotel is 160 a night gives you breakfeast and all the time you want in hot springs.

Thanks for these great suggestions.

But I should have clarified that I'm looking for one day trip. I want to go and come back the same day.

Then just book it through your hotel or one of the many tour shops dotted all around San Jose. Just tell them what you want.

For other ideas on this and other daytrips, see this Thread and internal links. Tons of stuff to do and we've covered most of them on the Board:

A day tour to Arenal is pushing it a bit. Looking at at least 6 hours of drive time. If that is what you must do, leave early like 6am. There are a ton of things to do including one of the best zip lines in the country. Volcano is neat to see IF the cloud cover allows. Baldi Hot Springs is interesting and pretty darn good food. Need any more advice/help/driver (LOL) PM me.

I did the Arenal tour from the SL. It is a butt kicking day. You leave early AM and return at about 10:30 PM. I was the only Gringo on the tour, but some of the group wanted to talk to me, and were very nice.

As for seeing the volcano, yeah you see the bottom, but unless you are very fortunate the top will be in the clouds. I enjoyed the hot springs, but bring some shoes that you can use in the water since you are walking on rocks.

what I would try to do is see if you could get enough interest in a group going, and then rent a van to take everybody. It would not only be cheaper, but you would be able to cut the time down.

Health & happiness to all.............

It's 4-6 hours by car but are there still flights from San Jose to La Fortuna? Is Baldi the place that replaced Tabacon as the best hot springs resort? Thanks
