They have been know to refuse admittance to the News Cafe for certain ladies they feel do not belong there.

Due to a change caused by weather/flight cancellations, original plans for Feb 3-7 were changed to Feb. 9-13.
As a result, LA only had a room for me on Feb. 9 & 10. DI only had a room for Feb. 12. SL, Freebird and Morazon were booked solid for Feb. 11. Had sworn off the Prez 2 years ago after getting turned away at the front desk with my date for the night.

Did not want to, but booked for the 1 night at the Prez. A guy that I had met told me he had heard from a chica that the Prez did not allow any guests after 10 pm. I called the front desk and was told no such thing as a 10 pm curfew for guests.

Was selective that night in the HDR and found a part timer from Cartago that was dressed conservatively with a dress, not a mini skirt. I asked her if she could get into the Prez, she said yes and she had a light jacket with her in her purse.

Go to Prez and at the front gate, was turned away because of inapropriate dress. Was told that if she had pants or leggings, would then be OK.

We go back to HDR, she finds her friend that has leggins. She borrows them and we go back. Get past the outside gate and get to front desk only to be told that she could not get in.

I remained calm and tried to talk our way in, but no way. What a complete pain in the ass.

F*CK THE PRESIDENTE!!!

Nice to know, thanks. So far no problems, but I usually hang out with...ahem...a tad classier style of chica than the average shark hanging around the DR. So maybe that's why no problems yet.

Reviews on sites such as trip advisor are the driving force behind the current policies at the Presidente. They want the normal tourist business which cannot co-exist with our needs. I used to always stay there but it got too wierd for me riding the elevators and such with a chica in tow. In my opinion they would be better served to just take the ambiguity out of the situation and just say no mas chicas.

You mean like this:

“Sad Pathetic Old American Men”

Date of review: Jun 26, 2007
This hotel is filled with sad american men who try and hook up with the hookers... they are pathetic old men crowded in the bar telling stories of their nights with prostitutes. pathetic is being nice. the wall in my room was covered in some funk i rather not go into detail.

Haha. I'm not gonna lie. Some of those reviews are entertaining as hell. I clicked on a few of the hotels and checked the bad reviews and they definitely have a trend of shocked gringos witnessing their first dose of mongers and their chicas.

read through the first 9 pages of reviews, and it seemed like every single one posting got up graded to a suit for no more money !! wow... and every one also thought this was the greatest hotel EVER.... I really liked the one review that pointed out how close all the major sites of the city where from the hotel including DR and KL

I don't live there yet, I'm talking about my past visits before I make my big lifestyle change. And consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds - even when I'm living like a tico to keep it frugal, I'm still going to splurge sometimes, because, well, I can afford it.

If I wasn't a cheap bastard and had a choice, I'd stay at the Prez, since it is a nice hotel and has a great location, and since I'm mostly an MP guy the chica policies don't really bother me. But there are cheaper places available that are just as nice and are much more CRT-friendly, so I use them instead.

I must chime in, although it will be somewhat redundant b/c, I've done this before in defense of the Prez (I have no vested interest!). I go to CR 2-3 times per year to study Spanish, read novels in Spanish, enjoy the weather in the gulch and dance every night at Castro's Bar and Key Largo. I've always stayed at the Prez, so I'm admittedly biased. My favorita of four years has been denied for having lost her cedula and another has been denied for having a blurry cedula, both of whch were corrected. I don't give a hoot about the dress code b/c my aquaintences always know how to prepare for it. I like the fact that it's not a strictly monger hotel and for those of us who only see mongering as a less-signifigant part of our CR experience, it's great. Sitting at the corner of the two streets it's on, watching the chicas go by and striking up a conversation with someone at the bar is fantastic. Por otro lado, the last time I sat at the bar at the "WONDERFUL" Sportsman, which I do actually like, I found my self talking to a misogynist drunk, talking about how he would never marry and how awful women in the states are. (I've had a latina GF here in the States for four years and have no complaints at all!)

I think venues like the Prez are great if you aren't a "pure" monger and appreciate the security it gives you. On the other hand, if they get any stricter than they've been, please publish it and I'll find another destination!

Typical gringa propaganda. Anyone who pays for sex is "pathetic"

She's just pissed that she's been kicked off her pedestal and men aren't begging for the scraps from her table. Oh, I'm a man who's willing to pay, and I like young hot women. Yeh, there must be something wrong with me. :) Get a life, you worthless piece of human flesh. And BTW, the last time I was "sad" was after I spent a night with a woman like YOU.

SR

Can I give you an AMEN BROTHER on your statement.

Here is a good one!!!:

Quote:
“Go here if you like your girlfriend/wife being called a prostitute.”
I travel to Costa Rica very often for work, and have a girlfriend who lives in a town an hour outside of San Jose. I booked a room with the Hotel Presidente for a couple of nights while we would be in San Jose before we went to Panama.

It was a weekend, so we decided to go to a Club in Escazu and have fun.

Upon returning to our room, I was told by security that my girlfriend would not be allowed in with the clothing she had on. I asked him to explain, and he referred to my girlfriend as a "Working girl" and said "they" needed to be "properly" dressed. I spoke to the manager and they asked for her cedula (license). The manager then waived us through without an apology.

The next day, she went out to buy some things for our trip, and she called me from downstairs saying they wouldn't allow her in. I went down and asked for an explanation. They told me she was now blacklisted from the hotel. I got into an argument with the day manager about treating my girlfriend like a prostitute and eventually grabbed her and walked into the elevator.

I should mention my girlfriend is mulatta (half black). Is a school teacher, and was educated in the U.S.

I don't appreciate the policy of racism and ignorance of the Hotel Presidente management. Which won't be a problem, because I received a letter that afternoon under my door that explained I was now black listed as well...

Don't give these RACISTS your honest money!!!

Question: Does it matter that she was "educated in the US", if she dresses like a hooker?
