Hi everyone, another newbie to the board. I'm new to the mongering scene. That's not to say that I haven't had a go with a few lovely ladies in my lifetime. I was stationed in Panama for 3 years when I was in the military and visited casas, strip clubs and street girls all over Central and South America, Europe, and Curacao. In fact, I have been to nearly every country down there except for Costa Rica. I say I'm new to the mongering scene because I have never taken a trip specifically for this purpose.

I speak very strong Spanish and I am still fairly young, only 39. I have no problem playing the negotiation game with chicas. Girls, like pretty much everything down there for sale or rent are negotiable.

I am rebounding from a 6 year marriage to a Colombiana and I never once cheated on her. Despite my fidelity, our marriage went down the crapper. Sometimes things just don't work out. The fact that I wasn't getting any may have played a key role there...

I guess you can call my impending trip a bit of a rebound trip. That's not to say I'm hanging my head, both heads will be held high...

I haven't really done a lot of research on this site yet, but being a first timer in CR, I will probably end up staying at Del Rey or SL for my 1st trip.

I appreciate the advice. I'm still weighing my options. Why exactly would you recommend against Del Rey?

Purchase the VIP Membership, it's cheap and you will more than get paid back. Read Oranges Post in the Newbie Section, solid advice. Then read alot, then some more. Post in Roll Calls and spend some time at The Sportsman's Lodge. Plenty of good fellas to meet.

I already purchased the VIP membership, just waiting on my email so I can log in :D

I have already posted in roll call.

I'm extremely excited about this. I haven't done anything for ME in a long, long time except for the all too frequent self-lovin  The good news is, Jet Blue has direct flights from Orlando!!!

del rey has alot of street noise, really none at sportmens. rooms are far better at sportmens. sportmens is a much newer hotel. discount of 10% as crt member at sportmens. the one thing is no fee to bring a girl to your room at $12 each girl at del rey (even if you only do four a day that is $48 your money) I am 44 and get the feeling from staying at both hotels del rey is for youger men in there 20" or new guys that don't know any better.there is always a great group of girls at sportmens. You can try both but if you are like me ,I now only stay at sportmens.

welcome
sure you will have no problem wherever you stay. SL is just a bit more laid back with a lot of guys using it as a base camp in between bombing runs etc. del rey is the eye of the hurricane and can be a bit overwhelming imho. good luck and enjoy. :)

Definitely recommend Sportsman's for the comfort, bar/restaurant, the hospitality provided by Bill/staff and the many guys you will meet around there. Del Rey is much less personal, cut-throat business and of course, the chica fees. SL also allows multiple guests in rooms for 'get togethers'. Never forget bunch of us going up to a room in Del Rey. They got my chica up there with three other guys but I hit the limit and was left out of the fun...
Another option might be the newly under BK Tuna management, Hotel Little Havana. If your plan includes lots of girls, good rooms, good prices for both and a manager uncompromising in customer service, I'd highly recommend the place. Good luck and good hunting!

Thanks a lot for all the info and advice. I think you have helped me make up my mind. I just need to see if they have availability on those dates.

I say try them both.

If it is your 1st time there, jump in with both feet and spend the 1st night or two at the DR and then after you have burnt the candle at both ends go to the SL and relax your next couple of days.

They both have thier pros and cons. Dont let a little $$ get in the way of a good time. The DR chica fee, although is nothing more than shame less gouging, still the place offers a convienant why to see and meet 100's of girls all just a short elevator ride away. As for the noise that is only on the street side. just ask for a room off the street. Also dont forget if you like dancing the Key Largo is right across the street. And offers a wide selection of Fav's as well.

Many on this board (including myself) love SL and with good reason. Its a great and friendly place and a must see/stop while your there. The newer rooms are very nice. Even the older ones are still a little better than DR. The bar and the food are also superior. But if you are really wanting to forget someone, there is no place like the DR for that. But as others have said, it is the the eye of the storm. Be ready and be careful. Most of all enjoy!

If your good with that, then enjoy them both. It will give you two very different prespectives on the scene in CR. Your next trip you will be able to select what your really after. You know....... some times you feel like a nut, sometimes you dont...... Moving between them, regardless of what you decide, is also very easy. A short walk or taxi ride. Changing hotels might be a small hassle but well worth it IMHO.

Hope you have fun and achieve your goals.

The reason why I say it in particular is because depite those who think you should jump right in or wallow in the belly of the beast, realize these chicas are sizing you up constantly. I think its ironic from a mongers point of view that the DR is like shooting fish in a barrel never knowing "they" (the monger themselves) are in a glass bowl.

I could write several paragraphs as to why its not beneficial in almost every capacity not to stay there but I'll spare the masses. But just understand for every monger who can't wait to go there thinking they are going to hook up with tons of girls, there's even more chicas waiting for that very type guy..

Ultimately we can forget the dollars and cents or sense, when the dust settles its session satisfaction that will either make or break your overall experience in SJ...

I appreciate everyone's input. From what I've gathered, the Del Rey is a great place to visit, but SL is the better hotel. That helps a lot and I think it made my decision easier.

counting the days...

I've decided on SL as my stomping grounds for my first trip. I have a question: I scoured the forum and couldn't find an answer.

When I make an online reservation, is the price locked in at that point? Do I just present my VIP card upon checkout to get the discounted rate? The only thing I could find was in the FAQ:

Q: Do I need my card number to make a hotel reservation?

A: You do not need anything to make a hotel reservation. Simply identify yourself as a VIP Member with our sponsors at the time of booking. You will however need to present a valid NON Expired VIP card upon check in with the particular hotel. Failure to do so will require you to pay full price on any hotel room you book

In that case, would I be better off calling in a reservation?
