I wish that they would do the same for Rio, my 40th is coming up in a few weeks and I'd like to head down. I might be heading to San Jose instead if I can't get a good deal.

Osgood, I don't know why you cannot see these fares but they are on the AA website. I found one in April around my birthday so I know that they are there. I am seriously thinking about using one as I don't have the money for a trip otherwise but my 40th is rolling around.

Those low fares make you wonder how they can do that with the price of
gasoline/fuel the highest in years!

Some airlines like southwest play the futures market so have their gas prices locked in.

The Costa run is a big moneymaker for the airlines look how many of them have flights there. California costs $200 from MIA for a 4 hour flight and AA normally gets $250 for SJO which is only a 2 hour flight.

Goal is exactly right, recently more and more airlines use traders who specialize in futures contracts and they buy futures in gas and lock in a much better price for long period of time to hedge against rising gas prices. And since their costs are now fixed and pre-determined, they are able to offer better deals on flights since the planes need to get filled. $190 is better than nothing.

By the way, the best deal that I could find from NYC in June is $475 on Delta.

AMR has no fuel hedges past 31mar05. Market rate.

This is all about market share. Seats at that price are sold at a loss.

this happens each year during the high season to put the squeez on competitors. AA even adds a 4th flight leaving MIA at 11pm. Right. who's going to CR that late at night? Seems a charter group tries to muscle in every once and a while. AA fights back.

This isn't about making $$$, it's all about being the last man standing in the AirWars.

Then, Ouch. The prices to be paid when the competition thins.

Enjoy while it last.

HL
