I've ridden The Dog and it's a much better experience. For one thing you can use the toilet right up until you get off the bus.

But if you live near Fort Lauderdale you cannot beat some of their specials $189 round trip to Medellin,$145 to Montego Bay,$285 or less to San Jose, under $200 to Cancun, Nicaragua,Dominican Republic
Usually these prices are about $100+ more and sometimes much more, their baggage charges suck but I cannot discard them since I live in SoFlo and they can get me to more places because of the price. How much comfort do you need for a Max 3 hour flight. I just Flew American Airlines and it was a way more classier operation I take Spirit for what it is ... A bus with wings.... Sometimes thats all you need.
I have flown about 8 segments with them and never one late...........most a little early, just my 2 cents

Baggage charges have gone up with most airlines...the two with 2 free checked are down to one with a charge on the second one...Spirit dropped the checked weight (40 lbs) and upped the prices by $13 for two checked. Delta still offers 2 free.

So, regular travelers, would there be interest in storing stuff in San Jose?

Yeah, I live near ACY and Spirit has service there. For me, that is the ONLY plus of Spirit Airlines. I made my maiden trip on one of those "flying vending machines" earlier this month.

That's what bugs me the most--the relentless merchandising of services by the FAs. They're just following corporate policy and instructions but it's still a burr under my saddle.

Who does Spirit think they are fooling with their 'the discount airline' advertising? When all the fees are added in, they are, on average, more expensive than AA, Jet Blue and other airlines flying to CR.

Yes, and it seems as if the flight times are purposely stretched out to maximize the availability of a captured audience (eg 40 minutes from FLL to Orlando :? ) On the way back, I sat next to a young couple. The wife had worked for Spirit up through last year and said working conditions are the worst. She did ticket counter and gate agent duties for $8.63 / hour. :|

Exactly. Up to $45 each way for carry-on and $33 - $90 each way for checked bags as well as the $10 - $60 seat selection fee for each leg really begin to add up. I made out on my one and only Spirit trip, though... $330 roundtrip ACY - MDE. I carried the free "personal item" and left seat selection to chance when I arrived at the airport. Even as a $9 club member, my usual 1 carry-on and 1 checked bag would have run me an additional $96 for the entire itinerary.

The "flying vending machine" fished me in during my MDE-FLL leg last month. My Spirit Mastercards showed up today. 8) The attendents hawked a deal that couldn't be refused. Fill-out an application on the flight and drop it off with them before leaving the plane and get 15,000 bonus miles (3 trips) and another value coupon worth 5000 miles just for filling out the application. Incredible  ... so I went for it hook line and sinker. I added the 5000 mile coupon to my Free Spirit account... and then today my cards arrived. :P I was so happy, I decided to do my mandatory one time use at Walmart (as I was short on Metimucil, paper towels and laundry detergent).

I enthusiastically dialed the card activation service and waited for my English-speaking customer service representative (salesman) to take my call. He said it would take a few minutes for the card to activate, but in the meantime, he would make me aware of some additional card features. (I expected that). After repeating the word "no" to him 20 different times, his frustration with me did not deter him from happily declaring that my card was now "active" and congratulating me on my 5000 mile welcome bonus. I asked, "What about the other 15,000 bonus miles I was promised?" He informed me there are no additional bonus miles for this offer as the 5000 welcome bonus was already added to my account. Of course, I protested and explained what I was told during the flight. He then advised me to call another customer service representative who would address MY problem. ... I was politely indignant and told him to either fix "my problem" or deactivate my cards and cancel the account. His reply: "You can't cancel your cards, Sir." My answer: "I know that, but you can! Either cancel my account NOW or put your supervisor on the line :!:" Well, my Spirit Master Card was short-lived. It died a quick death only two minutes after activation. The moral of the story... Use cash when shopping at Walmart.

Yeah I do, too... but probably for different reasons  . Like so many businesses nowadays... a consumer is like an altar boy being passed around a group of horny priests. There is no conscience when it comes to maximizing the "bottom" line. :|
