Just a pet peeve as I was accused of being one when I 1st got on here a few years ago (thought I would forget Mister Prolific?) Anyway, just thought that it would be interesting to have a place to comment about Tonka, IrionIdiot Jim Wignotowski, CHubbs, etc, etc. Hey, even the Shills are invited to chime in.

Well, then, there are shills and then there are shills. I've spoken at every opportunity and at length previously about the Dunn Inn (the Boyd-era DI, that is)--so I was a kind of shill--but with no compensation except psychic. I even called myself a Shameless Shill--but these guys are in a different league entirely.

We have all "shilled" at one point or another. For example, back in early 2005, when the SL was just getting off the ground, a group of us stayed there and shilled for the place to help it become more popular, kind of what it has become. We were thankful to Bill and his staff, who treated us well, so we wanted to help spread the word. We often "shill" for places that go above and beyond, because it's rare.

But yes, some of the infamous shills mentioned have gone beyond what I'm talking about.

Yup, there's a big difference between paid members showing support for a place and the blatant advertising by those unpaid members who only join just to be shills (and trolls). With the size of this board, I believe it's now time to reserve posting rights to only paid members (unpaid members can still read the non-VIP sections). That way the shills won't be getting a free ride and we'll eliminate many of the trolls.
