OK here is the next chapter of the PT story. I went to the Bahamas last Friday and returned around noon today. OK so let
me get to the part everyone wants to hear. I had no problems leaving here with a passport that was 14 days over my 90 days. I went thru the stuff in the Bahamas and the change in Mia with NO PROBLEMS. Then came the beautiful new Immigration room with about 16 lines so it took about 5 minutes, but I figured that just gave them more time to harass me.So I get this rather mean looking lady who stares at me for a couple of seconds then asks" How many times have you been in Costa Rica?" I wanted to answer "Haven't you heard of Vegas Bob"hahahaha Anyways I told her that I have been living here for 7 years and watched her stamp my passport.

So this being CR a story can't just have a happy ending.....so American Airlines managed to Phuck up getting my bag on my flight, and I am sitting here at home waiting for my clothes.

I'm going to wing it my first six months in Costa Rica and just come back to the states every 60 days or so. After that I will find a good abogado and explore my options if I hit the six month point (that's my tipping point where I'll decide if CR makes sense for me long term). Until then, I'll just revel in carnality.

I played Poker with a local lawyer who specializes in these type of legal work. I have his card somewhere. He told me the complete cost was $500 and that provided one met all the income and criminal back ground clearance requirements, the process took no more than two months.

I did not pursue the matter after that but perhaps it may be worth a try. The guy speaks very good English and behaved very professionally.

Sounds good, if you find his card send me his contact info.

How long ago did you speak to him? Currently the government fees are almost $500.00.

Maybe the lawyer will work pro-boner.

ID... no offense but what's to argue about almost $500 and $500....?
Either way the goal is reached.

No "O"... no pro-boner there. The guy is for real.

My point is that if the government fees are almost $500 it would mean that the lawyer was working for almost nothing. Hardly typical of attorneys.

The reason i asked the time frame was if you had that conversation before the government added the $300.00 deportation fee and the $48.00 charge for the new cedula with biometric data implanted his fee might have been $500.00 which would have allowed him some profit. The other possibility is that he quoted $500.00 plus fees which is the norm for attorneys here when talking fees for residency applications.

The third possibility, since you met him playing poker, is that he is a professional card player who earns his living playing cards and only uses his law practice as a front to explain his lifestyle so generating income is not a priority.

Personally, I would choose a more honorable profession as a front for gambling. :P

Thanks ID.
I get your point and have no arguement about the possibilities. I suppose further conversation and inquiries would've helped.
But understandably, I don't think it would've been the proper subject to talk about while playing cards.

I met him last November and we actually made a good connection since his first name and my surname are the same. I honestly have no doubt that he's legit. But maybe he was being nice or just stating that the $500 was the government fee and not necessarily what he would charge me.

He did have a decent game and did alright everytime (3 nights) we played. BTW... so did I.
I'll look him up when I get there next month and get the true story.

Again, thanks.

Thanks, I have been to their site, and am going probably join eventually. I was hoping to also contact an immigration lawyer once I made the decision to stop being a turista, so I'll save the lawyers information as well.
