hi buddies

i need your help quickly ...

i will be in del rey the first time in april. i wanted to make a reservation for a standard room with king size bed but they are full. so the only thing left is a economy room with queen size bed. is that ok or just too small ... for tica activities (just with one at the same time)???

thanks for your help.

Economy rooms are not a standard size. By that I mean some are bigger than others. The ones with an outside view tend to be the largest ones. On my web site you'll find pictures of a number of the rooms. Any room I described as being $55 a night would be considered an economy room.

Economy rooms easily get the job done.

If you want to get some sleep at the DR, ask for an inside room, to avoid street noise

I'll second that motion. All freakin' night long the cars parked in the parking lot between the DR and KL have alarms going off. Impossible to sleep "regular" sleeping hours. And, if possible get a room above the 3rd floor. The casino noise can be heard all day and night as well.

Unless it has changed, the real noise problem at the DR was all of the gambling machines making hideous noises all night. They are one reason that the last time I stayed there will remain the last time. I guess I just outgrew the place. It's great for a newbie, but it gets old quickly.

Actually your both right.

When my friend and I where there in Feb. I had a street side room and it was honking horns and traffic noise all night. My friend had a room above the bar and he said that heard music, and he casino noise all night. We where both in the fourth floor, so don't know if it is better or worse on the lower floors.

The room themselves where great and like stated above, will definitely get the job done.

Going for my second time in April, and this time staying Europa/Jaco/Prez. Though I enjoyed the comfort and security of being right in the belly of the beast(no walking or cabbing to your hotel at night, everything just an elevator ride away 24 hours a day), it can get to you. Plus the 10.00 chica fee can take a toll, specialy with the constant temptation.

But I can see that it was good for my first time, specialy if you're a solo first timer.

Being the newbie here, I was looking at staying at DelRey, just to be in ground zero. But a $10 fee PER chica ( if I am reading things right) is not working for me. Presidente here I come.

There are, of course, many different views, but I would not under estimate the value of being at ground ZERO. We all bitch about miniscule objectionable issues at the DR...but overall, I think that they run a top notch organization, for a turd world country. Where else can you find sexual paradise, casino, tours, currency exchange, decent food/bar/disco, somewhat responsive service, relatively clean/secure, etc.... only an elevator's ride away. True enough, I can only take a few days at a time before I have to rest/leave to the playa... but for the time that I am in SJ, I'm not bitching about the DR

Excellent points,Diablo. I'm looking now at Sportsmen, and Castillo, as Presidente is chronically sold out (unless I can get into the new addition second week of June). I'll keep DR in my mind, but I have stayed in GZero in the DomRep, and it was just too much of an aggravation after about the third day. Chicas always coming by, noisy, etc. I'm not a casino goer, but if it attracts las ticas, I can probably bear it. That $10 fine is just annoying.2-3 ticas a day and i'm shelling out another $150 bucks just in fines.. :x
