Dino, A few years back the goverment left only about 8 days as national or public holidays.

If I am not mistaken the rest, even though are remembered don't fit any more. Banks, schools and any other public facilities will continue a normal life.

Jul 25 Guanacaste Annexation Day

Very helpful

I was planing for a return trip July 27-August 7. Does anyone know if "Jul 25 Guanacaste Annexation Day" or "Aug 15 Mothers Day" will cause any type of a chica sortage. I haven't been down since last September and would like a good selection when I return.

Juan Santamara Day: week long celebrations, parades, concerts, dances,
especially in Alejuela. Will not impact chica hunting.

Annexation of Guancaste: fiesta mainly in Liberia. Will not impact chica hunting.

Mente's list of Holidays is correct, rest are no longer paid holidays for workers.

Should this be a sticky? I've been fooled often. I'm always down for mother's day and often for the one where people walk to Cartago, though it is a while since I've seen anybody walking on their knees.

Veele

Agree think this should be made a sticky.

That one is the black Virgin of Los Angeles (La Negrita) and takes place in early August. People make the pilgrimage from all over the country walking to the Basilica in Cartago. They enter the Basilica and crawl on their knees to the altar.

Very moving to those who are religious, most BM girls are not.

I know this is an old thread, but can someone tell us what days they close the bars? I know they do for elections. And what about Good friday thru Easter?
Thanks!

Bars close for 3 events,

Semana Santa, 12:01 AM Thursday until 6:00 AM Saturday morning.

Election & political rally days. Unsure of the exact hours.

Oh God you poor soul !!!
The whole town shuts down and there are no cars or taxi's allowed on the streets so you can't go anywhere. Everyone either walks or rides bikes.
Better bring at least a skateboard... Pack light as you will be carrying your bags.
What hotel are you at ???
I hope it isn't too far from the airport...
There are parades and floats so maybe you can hitch a ride on one ???

I'm just yankin your chain..
There is a celabration but it won't affect you.
Have a great time

Maybe Nucknfuts
