Anyone been to this restaurant/bar? It's on the road from Quepos to Manuel Antonio. I'm going to Quepos/MA in August (first time in eight years!). It's located near the Hotel Tres Banderas. Their website is pretty good. Apparently they have live music there some nights. It's an 'upscale' place, as the meal prices are in the $20 to $30 range. I won't go to Arco Iris disco, and I've been to Wacky Wanda's, the Gran Escape, and the Banco Bar enough times. It looks like a good place to eat and then hang out with a chica later in the evening.

While you are there eat at El Avion, yes it looks like a tourist trap, but I had one of the best meals of my life there and it was under 30 mil for 3 of us to dine on Mia Mia and the view was to die for,one of the best sun sets I have ever experienced. I have sent a bunch of people there and they all raved about the food and service, get there early for a good seat. :D Pura Vida Mae

The food and service at the Marlin restaurant in down town Manual Antonio is also great. The breakfast is good also. Any taxi driver knows it well.

Here's a list of the venues mentioned above. I'm starting with a TripAdvisor review if El Avion because on the left is a list of MA restaurants with click-throughs:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R ... renas.html
All restaurants in MA ranked by popularity:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants- ... renas.html

El Avion http://www.elavion.net
Marlintini's a GP Website but has a 10%-off coupon http://www.manuel-antonio-restaurants.com/
Wacky Wanda's down in yet another list of comida y bebida joints http://www.manuelantoniopark.com/mapk/e ... urant.html
Gran Escape note the 7-digit phone #'s http://www.elgranescape.net/
Banco Bar yet another list but with current Ph. #'s http://www.manuelantoniocostarica.com/c ... rants.html
Arco Iris Disco listed in a nightlife guide which includes live music venues (Yippee!) http://www.villascostarica.com/nightlife/index.html <<NOTE: this is also listed in a gay guide to the area. Mentioned for those who are, shall we say, skittish?

Hope this was more helpful than confusing.

I've been past El Avion many times before, but have never stopped in. The hotel I'll be staying at is a short walk from there, so I might check it out.

I briefly chatted with the owners a few years back on a flight to SJO. They had live Maine lobsters shipped with them for the opening of the restaurant. They had a charter boat out of Quepos for 7 years at that time. I believe they're from Boston. I got the impression that they had thought through the concept carefully, and knew what they are doing.

There is a seafood restaurant in Quepos. 1 block North of the best western on the road along the water. Can't remember the name, but it is very good. Owned by a woman from the states. Ate there 3 times the last time I was down there. Can't miss it.

That would be the Gran Escape. Excellent food indeed.
