There is nothing good to find outside of San Jose and Jaco. At least not consistently.

The guidebooks mention Zi Lounge and one other venue. Any specifics on where in Coco a CRT VIP might find something nice?
While not exactly new to mongoring or Costa Rica, this area of the country is new for me. My forum profile lists me as a CR virgin, but I've been here before in 1978, and December 2009. In otherwords, I'm no stranger to the DelRey or the HLH, as well as a few other less well known venues. I've also been to Thailand, Kenya, India, Nepal, and others.
Anyway please do fill me in as I'm not tied to the SJ area for my entire trip, actually the fishings much better over at the coast!
Any help that you more experienced on Costa Rica brothers can supply will be gladly accepted.
Thanks-Zabu

There isn't anything like the HDR or SL in San Jose, or the BB in Jaco, in the rest of CR, so if that's what you're expecting or looking for, you can forget it. No MP's or strip clubs either. Yes, there are some working chicas here and there in some of the regular discos and bars (i.e. not hooker places like the HDR), but you're going to have to put some work into getting them. It's good to see the rest of the country, but only for non-mongering stuff; for chicas the typical gringo tourist monger needs to stick to San Jose and Jaco. Guys who live in CR or travel extensively throughout the country and can speak fluent Spanish are the ones who can take advantage of chicas in the off-the-beaten-path places.

And if you do happen to find somebody, the law of supply and demand is firmly at work. So if there are few working girls, they will quote higher. A couple of years ago in Flamingo, another CRT was quoted $300 for 1 hour. She was the only working girl in the entire place, so she thought she had a monopoly on sex. (She did, but he wasn't that horny. )

Lord have Mercy, Brother Orange! Exorbitant pricing is one thing but that Chica's gonna be sitting on her money-maker for a long time at that rate. By way of contrast, I got a little red headed sweetie that visits me every once in awhile here in South Jersey --1-1/2 hours for $150--and does a fine job.

Sorry Jazz, but that's not true. Things are always different in many of the smaller towns and pueblo's around the country. As soon as you get out of the gulch, things can change quickly in the P4P market. When you're the only chica in a small, local bar - and there's 6 or 7 gringo's around, SOMEONE will pay her what she asks. Yep, I agree, it's ridiculous, but it happens all the time. It's simply "supply & demand". Now, throw in a dumb gringo with more money than common sense and 10-12 drinks under his belt ? She's in business! And she knows this! I've seen this happen too many times....

Ok, Orange, we get it. You respond the same way to all such posts. The pu*sy is in San Jose. Go there for pu*sy. Yes, we all know this. Happy?

However, if anyone has some more specifics, I would also appeciate this information. And yes, I undersand where 99.85 of pfp is in CR but sometimes one is in other areas and would like to have an options.

So, does anyone have any info on where to find the implied pfp options there?

I have posted several messages in the past about Playas del Coco. I have lived in Coco and the surrounding area for about 5 years. Lived here for about 6 months before taking a business trip to SJ and my business partner at the time took me to DR when we arrived at our hotel, Presidente, around midnight. His pitch to me was the he knew a good restaurant that was open 24 hours since I mentioned I was hungry and inquired about room service while checking into the hotel that night.

Coco is a small drinking village with a fishing problem.

Action in Coco can be sumerized in the following:

Zi Lounge... great bar! Good music, a little more geared to the ExPat's living in the area. I was actually with Zi sitting in a golf cart during a rain storm just over 3 years ago. That bar, Zook Santana was the only bar open at the time thanks to the municipality of Carillo closing down Lizard Lounge for noise violations. Come to think of it Lizard Lounge may have actually been closed for it's first major renovation and later closed for not pulling permits for said renovation. Zi Lounge opened to much anticipation on Dec 28, 2008. The place has been renovated and expanded several times and in it's current form is a large patio or garden bar. From time to time there is a water feature that is like a runway with overhead showers that women or other crazy drunks will dance on. But for the most part is a good place to just hang out for a while. Food is pretty good for the price, I for one enjoy the burrito every now and then. Fajitas are good also. Has kind of turned into a local hang out for happy hour. Wednesday is a good lady's night with a big showing form the ExPat community living in the area. For a while they were doing some good theme parties such as a full moon party. Had good entertainment that was a change of pace for someone like myself who lives here full time.

Lizard Lounge is more of a local crowd with mostly regatone music. They have an indoor and air conditioned "disco" with a separate bar but rarely are there more than a handful of people inside this area. The main focus is in the open air portion where you will find people dancing... usually shoulder to shoulder. From time to time they will play salsa music. At one time was my favorite hang out but I just plain got tired of the place.

Zook Santana was the long time favorite of most, until Zi Lounge opened. I do not know the reason but it seems for the last two years this bar will close down for a couple of months at a time. They are back and open on a regular basis but I have not been inside in over a year. At one time they had great food and I have eaten lunch there several times. I think that just changed as the chef was just deported and will not be allowed to re-enter for 5 years. This bar is owned by an Italian who also owns a bar by the same name in Italy. He is also the owner of a large number of condos in an area called Las Palmas as well as a time share property, Coco Sunset. I believe I am correct to say he also owns two other restaurants La Dulce Vida (good thin crust pizza) and a beach front boutique hotel and restaurant but the name is escaping me as I write this (good food but WAY over priced for what it is).

Coconutz.... When I first moved here I would stop at this bar three or four times a week on my way home to use the wireless internet and have a couple of beers. The original owner was a piece of work and chased away his business. A little over a year ago another gringo bought the place and has greatly improved the bar. In concept a good place to watch sports but the TV are just too small and too crapy to call it a true sports bar. Pizza is pretty good but close to being expensive for Costa Rica. Service is usually pretty good. Not sure what the after 9 pm scene is like as the previous owner liked to close by 10 or so. New owner did a good job of publicized a NYE event, but I did not attend.

Of the above mentioned venues you can find P4P activites in Zooks, Zi's, and Lizzard's but it will be nothing like you would expect in SJO or Jaco. In general terms, if she is young and engaging with eye contact and a smile she is likely on the menu.

On a nightly basis there are a handful of girls who hang out on the stairs to Coco Beach Casino (formerly Coco Verde and also formerly Coco Bay Hotel and Casino). The talent at this location is suspect at best. I do regularly see people pulling chicas but I have never done it personally. Inside the casino there are three or four girls who hang out but it appears they are with their taxi drivers (aka pimp) waiting for his phone to ring.

At one time there was a taxi driver, Claudio. He drove a 4 door silver late model (boxy shaped) Nissan Senta. Claudio was a good source for hooking you up with women who did not frequent the bar scene. He would drive a chica to your place for an inflated taxi fare of about $10 to $20. I have not seen Claudio for a while but I am sure he is around.

Restaurants, there are several good places to eat.

Uncle Earl's BBQ, on same side of street about 30 meters or so above Lizard Lounge has only been open about 2 months and is excellent in my opinion. Earl is a great guy also.

Papagayo Seafood, Papagayo Steakhouse, and Sushi boat are top quality. I have not eaten from the steakhouse menu in a very long time but have always enjoyed the seafood and especially the sushi. Owned by the Bragg family. They have been in Coco for about 50 years after their dad packed the family in their Mercedes and they drove to Costa Rica from Baton Rouge. They slowly took over the commercial fishing business in this area.... and I believe they did it because papa Bragg brought a generator in that Mercedes and they were the first people to sell ice in Coco way back when!

Casino has good poker tournaments on Wednesday nights... as a part of a year long tournament season call 3 Kings Poker league. $20 buy in with rebuys for first 3 levels with upto 40 players. Tournaments start at 7:00 sharp.

About 30 minutes away is Hotel Riu which also has a casino... Casino Las Olas. Zero P4P action at this locaiton but also a host venue for poker tournaments on Monday and Friday. Same format as above but with rebuys for first 4 levels instead of 3. Free shuttle leaves from Coconutz at 6:30 sharp if I remember correctly.

Also about 20 minutes from the heart of Coco is Club Secrets which is taged as a show club. Facility wise is a nice strip club but talent wise is a dog park. Been there a couple of times mostly out of sympathy as I was neighbors with the owner at one point.

If you want any additional information feel free to send me a PM.

Golfer- What ever happened to the La Vida Loca Beach Bar and Grill in Playas Del Coco? Met the owner, Jim, at the border of Nicaragua one day. Was nice enough to pull me off the TicaBus and give me a ride on to Rivas and spent the night there showing me around before heading to Grenada. GREAT guy and from the way he talked, his bar had a lot of P4P. I just never made it back that way to see him so no real info. Thanks for your excellent post on the area!
