Xman's post is brilliant.

I've seen successful entrepreneurs in action, and they seem to be able to "hit many notes on key". From the notes Xman listed, to several more that you just "have to have an ear for", if that makes any sense. Like a crazed xylophone player, running around, hitting a note, and then running off to hit another note, and take care of god-knows-what.

It's about giving people what they need and want, while keeping an eye on your bottom line.

That is the biggest problem of most small, under capitalized businesses that don't make it.

Sounds simple, but if you can't manage cash flow, you will go broke making millions..

Speaking of drunken supervision, how many of you have met the owner of the Hemingway Hotel. That guy can seriously put away the beer. Don't want to say the name, but its an Irish name.

You know, being Irish and being someone who can also put away the beer, I can relate. :D

Tim, I am Irish too and in my prime I could keep up with the best, but this guy goes above and beyond the call of duty.

This Thread with the input of accomplished businessmen should be copied and handed to every starry-eyed but woolly-headed would-be entrepreneur coming through SJO.
Speaking of drinkers, I saw in amazement the owner of the former Shannon's put away a dozen Guiness one evening and walk out, seemingly not the worse for wear. That amount is about what I could handle in a week, alcohol-wuss that I am.

To add to xman's list. Have asshole friends that hang out and tout your establishment. You are swimming upstream to get people to your business anyway. Asshole friends taking up your cause doesn't help.. :D

Yeah, I think we all know who you are referring to. It will be interesting to see what happens with that place and when. :D :D

Wasn't talking about anyplace in particular. Actually, multiple places over the years. If Bill weren't such a great guy and ran such a great place, I might have the attitude about there, based on some that hang out there and tend to speak for the place. Definitely wouldn't penalize them for that. Whether I like a business or not, not a big fan of the CRTouts.

It's one thing to compliment a place of business without going too overboard. However, I think twice before valuing the opinion from an obvious tout for any place of business.

+1 BlueDevil.... That's why when I write something favorable about a place, I try not to go overboard. And if I recommend a place and it happens to be a friend, that is a coincidence. I'm not a warm fuzzy sort. I wouldn't recommend my mothers, relatives or best friend's business or service if they didn't do a good job.

Yeah, Bill is the key behind the SL because he is such a good ambassador and has a true interest in the customer's satisfaction. I can say the same thing about the crew at the DI.

We'll see about that DI crew. :D Not sure yet about the big cross-dressing guy and the bald Greek guy that hangs around there so much.
