Do you mean a breakfast included with the room? If so, probably La Amistad, although I found the free breakfast at the Hotel Dunn Inn to be good, I added scrambled eggs to their basic breakfast and it was reasonable. You can always augment your "free" breakfast with other stuff at either place. Also the Del Rey restaurant (across from the hotel) has a great buffet, if you don't want to save your time/money for chicas at the shark tank. Sometimes I just like to meet Colonel Angus for breakfast, since she is also retired Army.

Hotel Presidente has a good breakfast buffet. However, I have made reservations @ Dunn's Inn and I'm going to give Boyd a shot @ my business.

The SL has a Americano and a Breakfast Burrito that are really good, although they only give you one piece of toast with the Americano. I agree with the other poster about the free breakfast at the DI, just add some eggs or pancakes and you are GtoG. :D

Try the Tico breakfast. Will definitely stick with you. Gallo pinto (beans and rice), eggs of your choice, fried plantains and tortillas. Also, take advantage of being in the tropics. I do fruit for breakfast most days and it definitely gives me energy to keep going through lunch...

El Patio at Balmoral offers good people watching with breakfast, and there's always plenty to see.

I'd also have to say The News Cafe at The Presidente.

I always enjoyed having breakfast in the patio cafe at Amon Plaza (which I'm not even sure if Amon is still around or not). Quiet..good food and very relaxing.

If you're looking for the "Denny's Grand Slam" type breakfast.......I'd say the Del Mar Restaurant at the Hotel Del Rey is a winner. Their breakfast buffet has most everything for about $11.

Good lunchtime salad buffet, too.

The Casino Colonial has the best breakfast by far, I have tried them all. There is other places out the gulch that are much better. Although I love french toast,2 eggs over light and crispy bacon at the Colonial, very hard to beat. Make sure to tell them to cook your bacon crispy, dont know how the Ticos eat raw bacon :| but they do.

For me, the best "included" breakfasts have been at La Amistad and Hotel Presidente. As far as the best value for a "paid extra" breakfast, I believe the honors should go to Restaurante La Criollita. I also enjoy the a la carte breakfasts at Chelles on Avenida Central.

They all must have seen the video "Trichinosis can be Fun"...and believed it. BTW, it baffles me too.
