Guys;
While this may seem like its aimed at the ex-pats amongst us, its for everyone:
For years, whenever I needed to know where to go for the best deal on lunch, dinner, breakfast or souveniers, I would ask Don Gordo who ALWAYS pointed me in the right direction.
Now that I live here and have daily experience buying and bartering, I like to compare notes with others that live here.
Do you need something? Apliances, Perscription Drugs, A new apartment, a good deal on car insurance, a good place to buy a car, car repair? Whatever..
Those of us that live here need to share thier experiences and let all of us know if you've found a good deal on anything.
I'll start the ball rolling:
I need a washer dryer and I happened to stumble into a place about 5oo meters south of San Sabastion that sells slightly scratched appliances. One can save 50 or 60% if they don't mind a scratch on the side or the back where no one sees it anyway. Its called Electro Mega.

Ok, now, its your turn. Got a good deal recently? Share it!

LVSteve

I hear that Kelly at Kamur has a 2 for 1 special going this next week...oops...thats probably not what you meant LV :oops: . Good idea for a thread though...

If guys need custom built furniture...which is sometimes nicer and cheaper than showroom bought...there is a great furniture manufacturer/store just before you get to the 1st Jaco entrance from the Highway coming from San Jose. Cant remember the name off the top of my head, but when I get home from the USA will look it up. Quality wood furniture for a fraction of what it would cost in San Jose and for sure the US. PLUS, they will ship to USA or Cananda at a very reasonable price.

Also another tip learned on car buying in CR. If you make a dealer friend but buy from an individual, you can save on taxes by having the car pass through the dealers license...another words...he buys it...then sells it to you...all with YOUR money, but you save a lot in taxes. This is especially true if you are brining in a car from USA or Panama.

Just a couple Tman tips for getting along in CR... :roll:

This may not fit over here but I thisk is somehow related.

Talking about good deals for everyone here, I will share my part but by NOT recommending a furniture/factory named HIPER MUEBLES. it is located on the high way past the Hipermas Supermarket in San sebastian.

I bought a set of new furnitures, when they time came for me and have them delieverd at my place, it was all fine, that same day we noticed a white spot in one of the seats, had to turn the seat back to have it fix. A few days later while sitting across from them my Wife noticed they were not the same set we had ordered. to make a lons story short. They claim I was the one that order to make the change therfore they would not take care if it. OF course I sued their ASS.....

Anyway that's my story...

Mente

Mente,

Did you really sue the place? It wil take you months, even years before the juzgado give you a sentencia.

For our Spanish speaking member, the website www.supereconomicos.com provides good deal on apartments among other things.

Yesterday's decision means that ICE - the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad - can begin to market the new lines as soon as the end of this year.

Mente, think October is very optimistic. Personally would be surprised if they are available before January 2006.

Tman;
Found a guy in Moravia - small shop - very little overhead. He built me a custom queen size bed, 2 nightstands, 1 computer desk, 1 bookcase, 1 coffee table and an entertainment center for TV and stereo.
I picked all the hardwood, specified the measurements and assisted in the designs. Total cost? $1165.00 US.
Have been told that this project would have cost 10 to 15K in the U.S.
Anyone want the details (name, phone etc) let me know and I'll post in this thread.
LVSteve

LVSteve;
I would appreciate the furniture makers number.
A PM is ok, if you don't want to post.
Thanks,

No need for a PM. I want to share my good deals with everyone, besides, I was just to lazy to look it up when I posted.
Anyway, the name of the place is Muebleria Moravia. I for get teh owners name but he's the owner (very small place). tel: 236-8253.
EVERYTHING IS CUSTOM MADE.
LVSteve
PS: To others - this is the kind of exchage I had in mind. Matter of fact, I'd love to see Admin. create a whole new catagory for Deals.

A San Jose favorite of mine.
Good reliable service, and excellent attention to detail.
She does have a problem with accounting and frequently
sends duplicate bills.
