"In Costa Rica the tax of individuals is based on the principle of territoriality, meaning that all personal income which has a foreign source is tax exempt"

copied above from accounting site

anyway this is still confusing after looking at posts; if i live 330 days a year in costa rica
and my tax income base is there{for USA QUALIFICATION of foreign exemption} so that i qualify for the 90k exclusion, and all my earnnings
are derivied from outside CR and are less than the 90k, then can i pay zero taxes?

seems like i could be in a perfect limbo- exempt in both countries under 90k as long as i bite the bullet and move there and stay 330 days a year. something i'd like to figure out and aim for but i would like some more insight.

thanks if any of you have come to a clear understanding on this

I think the U.S. exemption is $87,500- and it's only on earned income, any money from capital gains would still get taxed. Not sure how a pension would be qaulified.

For these kinds of questions, you are advised to seek out a qualified tax attorney--a misstep can cost you big time and besides, an attorney's fee is deductible, I believe.
