If you are a light sleeper, then choose a room in a different section. But bashing the hotel is a bit over the top, reeks of spite.

Sorry, but 12:30am in a mongering hotel?
I realize you are equally a guest at the establishment, but you have to be lenient to other peoples lifestyles to some extent.

Midnight to most people means nothing. Throw in a group of guys on a holiday, or worse a weekend getaway, and it means even less.

I sleep through pretty much anything, so its not much concern to me. But its nothing to walk into my hotel in Thailand or PI at 3-4 in the morning and hear full out conversations, and over the top moaning coming from various rooms. They're enjoying themselves and you just have to learn to take it for what it is.

IMHO if your one to hit the room fairly early, or tend to have a quiet lifestyle adjust yourself so you avoid those type of settings. Stay in a hotel that isn't littered with drunk mongers and their lady of the night in tow. Pick a room thats off the beaten path so to avoid people trekking in/out at awkward hours.

Tica-friendly? :?:

What exactly does that mean?

SL is a "safe haven" for the ticas. I have not yet visited another venue where such a large percentage of the ticas are regulars. SL treats them right, and even though they have to jump through a couple of hoops (SL has its own ID card) the chicas still keep coming back. They know they are safe there, that there is at least some business there. It's also gringo-friendly. A tica screws up and you won't see her again in SL.

SR

Thank you for the informative post. I appreciate you taking the time to write it. However, I have a feeling you either missed my point or you're having some tongue-in-cheek fun :D.

"Tica-friendly" literally means a hotel is amenable to women of Costa Rican nationality. I can't imagine any hotel in SJO being tica-unfriendly. I think that's not what the original poster meant when he used the term in reference to the Sportsmens' Lodge :D. Now, if he would have said "CHICA friendly", then we wouldn't have any confusion about what he meant.

Based on that comment, you would have no problem with mongers using "gringa" or "Americana" in Miami or Las Vegas as a synonym for "hooker". Or "mexicana" in TJ. Or "paisa" in MDE.

While I have no issue with mongers demonstrating ignorance by referring to hookers as "ticas", I keep clarifying the term -- and will continue to do so when I see it misused -- so I don't see another gringo get into an altercation with a bunch of locals because he kept asking them where he could find "ticas.... you know, the whores".

Besides, it's incredibly disrespectful.

In order of relative peace and quiet (from more to less):

1) Any room in the Mansion (the only ambient noise will be from the Mansion bar, which is only open Thu - Sat from 5 - 9 PM)
2) Most Modern wing rooms (with the exception of Hermosa, El Rey and Illusion -- next to heavy people traffic areas and the bar)
3) Clubhouse
4) The Presidente Suite -- although next to the courtyard and the reception, is actually pretty well-soundproofed. I've never been bothered by ambient noise staying there. And the fact it's off the hotel's main entrance can be a plus for spotting the talent coming on or departing. :)

If noise is an issue for you, stay away from Tranquilidad, Esperanza, Felicidad, Paz, Amor and the other Courtyard rooms which names escape me.

I stayed in the courtyard.. it does get a lil noisy, but i'm usually so wasted after the chica leaves, that nothing wakes me up.. I'm a heavy sleeper..

The only thing that sucks is trying to take a nap during the day.. If theres a sports game on, you def need earplugs..

It's a great place to stay, the food is great and everyones friendly..

Understood,...the thing is, you dont disrespect a business because your anal,...I think everyone who reads this can see,..SportsMens Lodge is a wonderful place,.and we are all happy those guy's are there. To headline a post that it sucks, because you have one bad night is over the top. I met Bill and Gary briefly, I had no need to as everything was excellent on my visit. Dont like the "free", continental breakfast?,...buy the country breakfast, wonderful!...I will stay there again.

The tree-huggers are in bed by 10pm to wake up at 5am for their eco-tour pick up and be well-rested.

If you book Holiday Inn on Travelocity in advance, those rooms can be had for 40 dollars a night and they are very nice, superb!....However, 75.00 chica fee, but you will sleep well without those pesky humans,...talking after getting off work, you know, living their life, infringing on yours....HMMMmmmm, ...I wonder......

Thread title... "SL Courtyard Sucks... Avoid it." Poster shares valuable information as to what room or rooms have a noise problem. CRT is about information. Poster is castigated for opinion. Hell raisers after midnight take offense.

Moral of the story... "Don't post valuable information".

Well its not exactly like that either Berk..

As adults we must understand the derivation of "valuable information".. The fact the original poster has never stayed in another part of the hotel makes that info at least a little skewed..

After a few exchanges the poster somewhat capitulated and from there some "real" valuable info was distributed... It’s all a matter of how you look at things in general

"The beds are also very uncomfortable"

This one`s a surprise however subjective opinions can go either way on these issues. ALL the rooms have new Jiron Platinum mattresses, they are all free standing beds...no bed frames just sitting up against the wall. Not to mention everyroom in the Hotel has a Brand New Panasonic or Samsung Flat screen TV. The Courtyard rooms which make up 8 of our 30 rooms can be noisy night and day, we will speak to security "once again" to keep it down in there at night. I apologize to Muledick for his bad experience at SL.

Bill

Interesting how everyone is different when it comes to sleeping. I have always liked sleeping with noise. Stayed in the courtyard several times years back. A couple of times stayed in the one closest to the bar. I was so hung over on a superbowl Sunday that I just lay in bed and listened to the party.. :D
