Maduib, I noted you were goint to Mindinao soon. I have never been, but have heard alot of good things about Davao. The medical issue is important in PI though.

The health care in Costa Rica is really pretty good and a great deal less expensive than the US unless you have insurance or you are over 65 and have Medicare.

Remember that except for extraordinary limited circumstances, Medicare doesn't cover you outside the US.

The pinays on Mindinao are the most beautiful filipinas, to me anyway... Something about the mix of Chinese, Spanish and Malay bloodlines that give them a very appealing appearance... Kind of like the women from Cali, Colombia... The mix of Spanish, Inca and Chinese bloodlines produce some outstanding specimens in Cali... I have seen lots of posts on CRT about Medellin and Cartagena, but little regarding Cali... There are fewer places to monger in Cali, but the rewards are well worth the trip...

I have to go to Mindinao and scratch the itch... Even though I would love to go to Zamboanga, better judgement will prevent me from going there... I'll be sticking to Davao, CDO and General Santos on this trip... I also have heard really good things about Davao, but I also heard the same rhetoric about Cebu, which I can take or leave...

I have a GF in Davao, specifically, Samal, Island Garden City. I met her almost two years ago when in Cubao, or Quezon City, which as you probably know is about 10 miles NE of Manila. She was the shampoo girl in a hair salon where I had my hair cut. Your right about the look. More of an islander look, very beautiful, 4 years of college, now living with her grandmother in Davao.
To make a long story short, in between meeting her and now, I found Costa Rica. ...
Now, it's coming to the point where I have to sh*t or get off the pot. Where I had been planning a trip to MDE, I may go to Davao around New Years. Have never been there and dont know much about it, although I have read much.

Rent don’t buy.

Can't speak directly on Argentina but this looks to be a good Board on it:
http://board.argentinatodo.com/Retireme ... retirement
Here's another although maybe with a sales agenda:
http://www.expatfinder.com/argentina

Both the above with a civilian, not monger, Point of View>

Not for nothing but if you are looking for an active retirement ( not the oxymoron you'd think) in Panama, check the classified ads here--somebody's looking to sell a turnkey call center in Ciudad Panama for $20K--sure worth a look if you have reasonable/good Spanish and some free cash.

:? isn't taking business advice from a janitor, the same as getting stock quotes from a barber :?: Some unsuspecting gringo fool, might read this and actually take a shot. Please refrain from commenting on things that you can't back up with a WSJ article :|

I am not sure if the comment about JazzboCR was tongue-in-cheek or a direct assault. Based on the not so smiley faces, the later appears to be the more correct conclusion. In my opinion it is inappropriate. If it was an assault may I suggest writing a PM to JazzboCR expressing personal observations, concerns and objections.

One’s level of formal education or one’s means of earning a living does not necessarily indicate one’s ability to read and think. We are all familiar with the highly educated fool and we are also familiar with the wise mature person who for one reason or another lacks formal “book learnin’”.

Harry S. Truman did not graduate from college and is often referred to as a failed haberdasher. Nevertheless, few historians dispute President Truman’s insight, wisdom and decision making. Most credible historians regard him as one of the greatest presidents.

I have never met JazzboCR but have read much of what he has written and found his thought patterns to be incisive and discerning. His suggestion was not professional advice, it was simply the submission of an idea, something he thought might be helpful.

In the words of the not so great moral philosopher Rodney Glen King: “Can’t we all just get along?”

A couple of things that has not been mentioned is how corrupt the country in question is and also a related item; how common is the "rule of law" in that, if something goes wrong, do you end up in a jail with little hope of release. According to that show; Locked Up Overseas, the opportunity for that to happen should also be a consideration regardless of whether or not the person was guilty of doing something wrong. Not that I take illegal drugs or advocate taking them, but I would shy away from any country with the death penalty for drug use or drug smuggling, of course, most of them are no fun anyway. :D

I'm a former Costa Rica visitor that settled in panama city, bought a apartment 4 blocks from the Veneto and Fiesta, which have a lot of action. Basically I live in a 20 story building, brand new, units cost $120 to 160K new. 3 bed, 2 1/2 bath; 20 year tax exemption on new construction. My carrying cost is $150 a month which coves security, pool, gym, and gas to cook.

I saw similar units to mine in Escazu for over $200 K.. Everything is close by, shopping, restaurant, great medical care, etc. 40 minute ride is Lake Gatun loaded with bass.....of course the pacific is here too.... I prefer the lake: no waves.

I agree with the previous post, Panama is friendly for residency and other issues. Panama City is building a metro similar to Medellin, should be ready in 3 years..... only bad thing in Panama City now is traffic.

Yeah, I lived in Marbella for about a year while in the army and it was interesting to say the least. I am not sure I would want to do it again, as the wet heat there is something, but it definitely has more commerce/business orientation than SJ. :D
