Actually it is kinda sad because she started the RFM routine shortly after I left. I told her I don't do this. She stopped coming round SL and I haven't seen her since February.

Magda at DI still asks about her, and if I've seen her lately. She really liked her.

Her name is Melitza and she is a tall flaca Hondurena. She has an old injury to her lower spine, (L3 or 4 I think) that curves off to the left like a docked tail on a red heeler. You can only really see it while doggy (no pun intended). This is just FYI if any of you all run into her in the gulch.

Hands down the best steak house in Costa Rica. Gotta go with the Entrana with fries. I've tried some of the other cuts and they are OK, but the Entrana is truly superb. Fries are some of the best in Costa Rica.

Which begs the question as to how many have you tried?

I ate at this place yesterday and found it to be lackluster. It's a nice atmosphere and the menu has a good layout and variety. However, the food was well below par for the price. Also, service was decent but definitely not that of fine dining. Bottom line, I wouldn't say stay away, but can't recommend it either. YMMV.

Last January, my third day in town, I started running a high fever about 3pm and it didn't break until 5 am. Chica placed blankets, pillows and herself on top of me all night due to the extreme chills. I think it's just easy to pickup a bad bacteria in any foreign country.
The drinking 24/7 and going with very little sleep makes us all easy targets for this sort of thing.

What did you order? I can only recommend the entrana, and guarantee nobody would have a bad experience with that.

I've eaten here 4 or 5 times, and every time it was a great experience.

The salad that I got looked withered and had unripe tomatoes. The homemade pasta dish had a ketchup-like sauce - I can't understand why anyone would go through the trouble of making homemade pasta only to ruin it with a cheap sauce. The server was nice, but 25 minutes after finishing my salad and half a bottle of wine, he asked if I wanted the check. I had to remind him that he hadn't given me my main course yet! He then said he had forgotten and ask what I had ordered. I realize people make mistakes and the food was edible, but this is definitely not the level of service or quality that I would expect for the fine dining prices they charge. That's why I felt the experience was lackluster.

Thinking back on it, I had wanted another drink and some red pepper as I ate the main course, but my waiter had disappeared again! I later glanced out the window and saw him outside playing with his wife and chi ld. You would think that I would have been given a free drink or something to occupy my time while I waited for my main course to be cooked. If I could do it again, I would have just gotten the check and finished dinner somewhere else.

I don't know if the LEBA defenders will take offense or not, and I have never actually eaten there myself, but the whole routine that you describe with the waiter should cast this place into mediocre at best.

Definitely not trying to offend...just telling my experience. Perhaps, it was just a bad day - like I said YMMV.

I have eaten there a few times and always found the food and service good but do not consider myself a "LEBA defender". I do however think you are over reacting just a bit. The positive reviews far outweigh the negatives ones and you admit you have never eaten there. Perhaps you should give it a try and then form an opinion.

I will and I did mean to the last time I was in town, but ended up at Churrascco's which was a fortunate occurrence as we were unclear on the directions to LEBA, and the taxi guy took us to a place he knew about.
