My buddy SoCal who is working on the plane sent me this Friday..... Nothing but problems, mostly with the Rolls Royce engine now... Earliest projected delivery date is now February '11...

That's interesting considering that usually air carriers have a choice of at least one other engine for an aircraft they order from the manufacturer. In the case of the the 787 the choice is the RR Trent 1000 or the GE GEnx-B. Evidently PW either decided not to try to develop an engine for the program or their design was rejected.

Considering that Srilm actually flew on a 787 and the problem being experienced with the RR engine it would seem safe to assume that at least one 787 is flying with GE engines. That begs the question as to why the problem with the RR engine is the prime reason the delivery of the 787 is pushed back.

The only thing I can think of is that all the early scheduled deliveries call for the RR engine. If not then it would seem Boeing is trying to divert the blame for this delay from themselves. Seeing that the report of the delay is from an article in the Seattle (home of Boeing) newspaper does not inspire a great deal of confidence as to the veracity of the story.

A bit of hijacking I know but: It's not a reach to say the RR "Merlin" engine helped Britain in winning the WW II European air war, at least til the US got involved. Look at this list of planes it powered:

And it utterly dominated unlimited hydro plane racing in the early days too. One of the best engines ever built. Strong kudos to it's designers and builders (wherever they were made).

BTW if you're a fan of aviation videos, YouTube's got a ton of them. For the more amazing ones, "Search" there for low pass. Just spent 20 minutes cruising through them--especially liked the one where the Brit crapped his pants when a plane flew about 5 feet over his head.
