As of yesterday the DR poker room has become non-smoking. Personally I think it's a good idea, however I'm sure some players aren't happy. Previously they only had to stay in the section of the room away from the tables.Smokers now have to step outside the sliding glass doors to have a smoke. It seems to stem from the fact that the air conditioner only works when the sliders are CLOSED so the smoke doesn't circulate very well. I empathise with the players who smoke, but where smoking is allowed is a world wide problem. This seems like a logical solution since smokers merely need to step outside the room to have one. Also smokers have the pleasure of watching the chicas now as they smoke.

Another reason to play there. None of the tourists should be pissed at this, poker rooms in the US are all non-smoking, other than Binions in Vegas (may still be smoking). The locals may have a gripe, but this is the way of the world now, they need to get used to this.

The last time I was in Binion's Horseshoe (maybe 2006), I had to play in a cloud of smoke.

All Vegas casinos are non smoking in the table area by law.

totally incorrect mr ID. In Nevada, a law was passed a couple of years ago regarding smoking in public places. Due to the very strong casino lobby/influence in the state, all casinos were exempted from this law. Most poker rooms have adopted a no-smoking policy but most table-game areas, 21/craps/pai-gow/baccarat/roulette have continued to allow smoking. A couple of casinos in the state have tried the totally non-smoking route & they both, quickly, went out of business.

Served up like a true European socialist. PC laws in USA are why I'm looking for a place when I retire. We dont need to get used to anything,...we need to fight it. Chaps my ass to hear this crap. Let's see how long it last. I wont play there. Since the city i'm in went non smoking, the entertainment district has gone bankrupt....but we are all safe.

Why should any of us have to breathe in the poisonous smoke and then have to walk around smelling like an ashtray? I don't think it will kill you to step 20 feet outside the doors.

CR has a no smoking in public places law somewhere in the process. As it stands now our casino room will be non-smoking but the bar area (only 20 feet away) will be smoking. The poker room is selfcontained with its own AC system.

You don't have to, you have the option not to go in. Problem is with non-smokers, you want to change it to suit yourselves. I always enjoy telling non-smokers, if they feel this way, they shouldn't burn leaves in their yard. Also shouldn't drive a hydrocarbon fuel burning car, or aircraft. I don't want to smell your cologne. When does it end?

Anyway, still respect your opinion, this is an argument neither side will budge on, so, pointless to continue. When CR goes non-smoking will move on to the next non PC country. :(

Didn't Panama also pass a smoking ban last year?

These laws are not for your health. It is one world order agenda in incremental steps to control the population, to get the populace to conform to law after law, like here. Panama out now,...heard it wasn't any good anyway.
Thailand passed a comprehensive anti-smoking ban, but they ignore it, to their credit.
