Just make sure you guys dont spend all your money, because you will most likely be booking your return trip back to CR on the plane ride back to the States in about a month or two, just sayin

+1

Thanks for all the info guys.

We ended up booking 3 rooms at the Dunn Inn. The suite options just weren't materializing, and, it was starting to look like availabilities were drying up across the town. So, thought we'd take a place that comes recommended from here.

This also means we've got to get the VIP membership now, there's about a $15 difference per night per room for having the membership.

Admin1 takes privacy very seriously--the cards are mailed discreetly and billed even more so. No danger of linking your true name to your online persona--unless you talk about it. For the ultimate in pricey discretion, look to our Sponsor The Alibi Network--they promise its bullet-proof privacy for visits, etc.You can get a head start on the info base by reading and absorbing Brother Orange's Costa Rica for Dummies in the Newbie Forum available to all (it's Thread # 16357). Thirdworld can provide you all the info you need on the Hotel Poseidon but also "Search" here for Clarita's Beach Hotel--downscale a bit but thoroughly raucous.

I recall reading somewhere and the lady (Amanda) at Dunn Inn confirmed it (I think anyway) that we could pick up our VIP cards from a 'Boyd' who works at the front desk at Dunn Inn. Can we just pay him in cash as well for the membership, or do we still have to do a CC transaction here? Would really like to be able just to pay him the cash, pick up the card, and I guess have him inform the admin's here that 'bigbang' has paid up, so I can see my VIP access here when I log on after that... Possible?

BigBang, If you are looking for a suite, I think the Vista Mar will be the way to go. Have heard nothing but good things about them. Next to no daytime action in Jaco these days, so if ya want something in the day arrange it at night. The Bohio bar is horrible for working girls these days. Nothing but gutter. Get in touch while you are here and maybe we'll meet up for a drink...

We'll be in Jaco from the 4th until the 6th. If you're in town at that time, let me know which bar, and we'll drop by.

Yeah, we're definitely looking for a suite, we're about 95% sold on Vista Mar now. How far isn't from the action? quick cab or quick walk, or, pretty much right there?

From what I've been reading, I don't doubt it. Although, I do want to visit a few other places as well. Among which Brazil ranks high on the list...

Bigbang, Boyd is Bktuna here on CRT, he's not at the desk, but just ask there and they'll get him, if isn't hanging out in the bar already. :D

Yes, you can pay and pick up the cards here. Just ask for me (Boyd) when you check in. Make sure your reservations were made with the CRT discount. I will be happy to get you acclimated and introduce you around.

Great!

We'll see you on the 2nd then (probably checking in around 9PM)

Do I have to start the VIP registration process here and they'll send the cards to you for me to pick up, or is it as simple as picking up a card from you, and you personally can upgrade me to VIP after I've given you the cash?

Another general question about Costa Rica, being that it seems they take US Dollars as well as their own currency, do they accept US $1 coins? I saw those things all over Ecuador when I was there, and I happen to have a bunch of those 'Sacagawea dollars' that I'd like to get rid of (perhaps on taxi's and such).

Bigbang: You saw US $ coins in Ecuador b/c the USD is their unit of currency. US coins won't do you any good in CR.

Big bang--It's just me but--I have a big plastic pretzel jar that I throw my coins into at day's end. Once a month or so I take it to a local bank and cash them in. Also, US vending machines are required by law to accept dollar coins. Just sayin...

Well guys, 9 hours until my plane takes off... Unfortunately a 2 hour connection at DFW, but, nonetheless I'll be in San Jose by 7:30 PM.

Only going to stay in San Jose for 1 night and head to Jaco. Booked a nice suite at Vista Mar.

Thirdworld, if you're still in Jaco we'll probably hang around at Calaritas or Beattlebar on the first afternoon/night. I'll be the somewhat big guy wearing a beach shirt and aviator sun glasses, and perhaps a panama hat. Not sure how big or small the main area of Jaco is as far as randomly running into each other goes. I definitely like to walk around and see all the action as opposed to just sticking to 1 spot.

Haven't booked a place to stay for the night of the 6th yet, as I have an early flight on the 7th, might stay at a hotel near the airport (SJO)... or maybe check back into Dunn Inn (assuming availability, and a quick cab in the morning).

Bigbang, I will try to look for you guys tomorrow afternoon around Claritas. If they have finished the work around the pool deck at the Cocal, you should check that out too. Saturday will definitely be catching the first Saturday of college football. Have a safe trip and hope to catch up with you guys.

Have a good trip bangbang, please report back on Jaco, as I am curious to continue to learn about the different venues in CR and the different cities.
