didn't want to hijack the other excellent topic on Poker and Casinos in CR...and playing styles....

but, did anyone catch the final table on the Champions Tournie on Pokerstars last night?

wasn't there a lot of All In pre flop bingo style bullshit playing going on?

or am I wrong to call All In pre flop action a bunch of bullshit bingo playing?

seriously, how many times has anyone seen/had aces in the hole lose?

All In pre flop.......hahahahahaha...

I watched it, and I know Annie Duke pushed in quite a few times. Her reasoning must have been that she was the short stack and wanted to pick up the blinds and antes, which at that point were fairly big. Plus I'm fairly certain with some of those hands she didnt want to see a flop either.

All in preflop is not something I like to do unless Im' holding a big hand, AA or KK. My personal viewpoint on the subject is that I want to get my money in when I'm holding the best hand, no matter what street I'm on. If its preflop, on the flop, the turn or the river, if I all my chips go in the middle I hope to be a favorite.
Has a guy pushed all in on me with 8-9 off while Im holding Aces? Yes, and on occasion the 8-9 off has won. thats poker. But over the course of playing, say we run that 100 times, I'm going to be an overwhelming favorite to win the majority of pots. Besides...I want guys pushing all in on me when I'm holding aces. So many times they have a hand like A-K or A-Q and overplay it.

ESPN/ESPN2 has been showing the 2010 WSOP Player's championship this week. "The grinder" Mizrachi (sp?) had some of the shittiest shit luck to win that.

Speaking of shit luck, he then made the final table in the main event.

I took a sick beat over the weekend in a cash game, huge pot. I had pocket 7's (7c7h), everybody folded pre-flop except one guy who raised about 5x BB. I just called. I love to see a flop with a small pocket pair. I hit my set, 2 diamonds on the flop. I bet out, he raises about 5 times my bet, so I go all in, he waits about 20 seconds and calls. He had AA (including the diamond). Yep, runner runner diamonds.   Poker is 90% luck.

I've been running cold for a few months now, will be looking to heat up in CR end of Aug/early Sept.

Thanks for the story Orange. :D I just play small stuff online, mostly tourneys and steps. I have lost some horrible situations lately. Yesterday I had kk and the flop came down 10, 7, 4 offsuit all. I bet heavy, 5-6 times the big blind. One guy calls. Turn comes, nothing to help either one of us. I go all in, the guy calls. He had called me with 2, 4 offsuit and ended up making two pair on the river. I see more good players go on tilt worrying about what donkeys are doing. It's gonna happen and the way I look at it is math. If I do the right thing, I will win more than I will lose in the long run. And donkeys will always exist.

in SoFla, we have the indian casinos for games....in the DC area, we have to go to nearby WV to the track for any card games....

I like the online sites too....

but, the casino games/tournies and the online games seem to play/bet differently....especially the small stake/freeroll tournies...

anyway, great stories....hope some more members weigh in with some too.

How about the K*D who won the WSOP last year?

He sucked out 3 or 4 times at the final table going all-in preflop with a small pocket pair against a bigger pocket pair. When its meant to be, it's meant to be.

here is an example of aces in the hole totally phucking a player up.....

i'm dealt A 4 suited clubs....the other player has Ad As....and he bets 5x BB.....the flop is Ah 2c 3d.....he now has trip Aces and bets heavy.....I call.....the turn is a 5c.....he still has trip Aces, but now I have a straight and check to him...he bets big, I counter raise and then he goes All In.....the river is of no use to either of us and he goes down in flames....

So what did the other player in? His pocket AAs or your dumb luck on the flop? Many could argue you had no business calling with a weak Ace  He made the right play and got beat, welcome to poker.

If you relayed that story to show how phucked up Poker is, then I agree

Lol, you lucked out but he should want to play with you every day. You called 5x big with a little suited ace and the called with a gutshot straight draw. The key to undersatnding poker is that the ratio is about 65/35 skill to luck. Any one day you can get very lucky or unlucky. Over time the better players win.

no, my argument is that pocket aces will mess a player up when just blindly betting heavy/going all in.....I had suited hole cards with one of them an ace....I still say heavy bet/all in pre flop is bingo style....and not reading potential straights, flushes, full houses after the flop or turn and river is just bad poker in my opinion.....

Wow, people play garbage online so much. Have got popped in a couple of tournaments today, where I'm scratching my head and wondering what they were doing in the hand in the first place... But alas, that is poker!

Just blowing off steam here. I'm not one of those who blows up, complains, or says anything about donkey play... It is a reality of the game and getting upset just puts me on tilt! I try more to worry about making correct decisions and don't beat myself up when I make a correct decision and lose...

since the poker explosion in 2004 the game has changed.Instead of playing poker now they play all in. The same people who complained about the fishermen now complain about people pushing all in.I actually prefer a $6 and $12 limit game to the small buy in no limit games.not that i play either very well. :D
