Thanks for the info, I tried a lot of the places suggested and none were close to the counter service by Pantera Rosas. Also if you like fried corvina they are on the money.

If you dont have a chica that can whip up some fresh ceviche,I still suggest the soda beside Pantera Rosa. Last trip I ate there several times and it was great.

Looking foward to eating lunch at the counter on Thursday. Since it is just around the corner from my apartment I will be there a lot over the next week or so. Also might party one night at Pantera Rosas.

As far as straight Ceviche goes I too think the Del Mar is good, I have had it at many places however the last I had at the Del Mar was as good as any I've had while down there!

Pura Vida!

Had Princess Marina, Soda Peru, Del Mar and another sodas, can't remember. I saw a plate of ceviche @ the Colonial looked huge and tasty but did not try. Del Mar gets my vote as best, just tastes better.

I agree the Del Mar has good ceviche no doubt and the scenery isnt bad either. This weekend I will give both places a taste test and report back. The fish taster signing off

The best ceviche is at "Ceviche El Flaco" on Hwy 32 somewhere between Guapiles & Guacimo. Since "El Flaco" is a one-man operation in a pick-up truck, the actual location tends to change. I always look for his little Toyota pick-up truck whenever I'm going to, or coming from, the Caribbean so I can treat myself to the best ceviche in Costa Rica.

YMMV... :| There's several small sodas and little hole-in-the-wall restaurants all along the Pacific coast with outstanding ceviche, places in Huacas, Brasilito, Nosara, Carrillo, Samara, Tamarindo, Flamingo, Ocotal, Coco, Belen, Portegolpe and others that I can't remember right now. The "best" ceviche is available in many places all over CR. Ya just gotta know where to look!

You are right MG, especially when you live close to the water. Across from my gym is a seafood market with good ceviche for 1500 colones. And I can find at least 7 or so ceviches I like in town. In SJ, I always liked the Peruvian ceviche at Machu Pichu.

Here at the Dunn inn we have two ceviches a regular Tico style and a spicy Peruvian. Customers seem to really like both and I personally love the Peruvian ceviche.

Yeah, I hear ya... I even found a soda in the basement of Mercado Central with good ceviche. Speaking of the Pacific Coast, I enjoyed excellent ceviche at the Reyna del Valle in San Isidro as well as several casitas on the road to Dominical and Hwy 34.

Hey BD,

I've eaten at a few of the sodas in the Mercado but I didn't know there's a basement. You mean there's another level of shops & restaurants beneath the street level ones?

It's not quite a "basement" in the true sense of the word, it is more like the lowest tier. There is a cluster of sodas and mariscorerias in the center of this level... but, I can't remember the name of the particular mariscoreria where I get my ceviche
