The prices have gone nuts  I just broke my 400 dollar rule all to hell. The flight is now over 900 bucks and its over 2 weeks away. And the price of oil is down. It looks like less flights, so more passengers competing for less seats equals higher price tickets. This sucks. But I still bought my ticket, in the big picture it was a deal. :D

I do not know what airline you are using but my experience with American is that the closer it gets to the date of your flight the higher the fare gets. I have purchased a ticket 2 months out for $329.00 and seen ii constantly rise starting about 3 weeks out. By the day before the flight the fare was just a little under a $1000.00 for the same flights.

Do not know if that is the case on other carriers.

Guys, I'm trying JetBlue nonstop from Orlando ($276) instead of American out of Tampa ($386) which has a 4 hour layover in Miami on the return trip. I'll let you know how it works out.

Irish Drifter, I book my flights out of Newark NJ, pay $392. RT. If I wait 3 or 4weeks before my trip price can double. The same policy with US Air out of Philadelphia.

I think you'll be happy with the JetBlue flight. I've taken it 2 times, been right on time, very good service. If you're going to park your car in Orlando, use the off-airport parking - the airport parking cost is ridiculous.

Good luck on your Miami layover, Miami has a well deserved reputation as the worst in America. I flew into Miami from Puerto Rico 4 years ago, an attendant wanted to see my passport i showed him my government ID and he said. Oh! anybody can get one of these... I said, You're probably right, but this one is mine and you don't need a passport form Puerto Rico, (that may have changed by now) then he says..... How do I know you are an American...I said...Look behind me pal, I'm the only American in this line...he passed me thru without another word.

That's precisely what it is. Almost every flight I've been on lately has been full or overbooked. I've taken to booking an earlier connecting flight to meet the flight to SJO. That way I can take a bump for a $200 - $400 voucher, take a later connecting flight, and still meet the same flight to SJO.

Delta is cutting back to one flight again from Atlanta, so that price (connecting, at least) is through the roof from here. American and Continental are consistently cheaper with 2 or more flights each day per airline. I've already put in for a status match with Continental and will dump Delta if Continental will match my frequent flier status.

SR

Wow...so that's why Delta's fares from YYZ have been so crazy. $200+ higher than AA or Continental. Nice to finally have an explanation, but I may end up dumping them too.

GoodDayJohn, Do you have any suggestions for the best off airport parking place?

The same thing can be said about on airport/off airport parking at almost every airport in the civilized world.

You're gonna have to do a lot of 20k sessions to make a $900 flight a deal. But I'll be around to watch you try!
