Last night 3 of my friends and I returned to Il Ritorno for the first time since Tony sold the restaurant. A couple of the old waiters were still there and greeted me by my first name. As always I was impressed that they remembered. The new owner came out to say hello to us,and see if everything was OK. I'm happy to report that the food and service was as good as before. Unfortunately there were only two other tables occupied while we were there. That's not a good sign for 7pm on a Thursday night.

In the past some guys reported being ripped off with $80 bottles of wine when they ordered "just a bottle of red". Well we had a bottle of Cassiello Diablo off the wine list for 13,000 col which is a very fair price. The only negative to the dinner was that we asked for a second bottle of wine and the waiter forgot and brought it too late,so we sent it back before he uncorked it.

Try Il Ritorno again....I think you will like it. I've reported before that Tony is now running his new restaurant in Santa Ana called Tres Scolini. I'm going to try to get there soon and report back.

I've always liked this restaurant. Great food and atmosphere. Not the cheapest prices in town, but I've always had a great meal there. And there always seems to be mostly Tico families dining there. Great place for a nice dinner with a favorita.

We ate there last night and the food was very good, still on the list for nights out.

Does anyone know where Tony's new place is?

The new owner of Il Retorno is Marco Caldi who I first met many years ago when he was running Costa del Sol. My brother and I became good friends with Marco over the years and it is good to see him back in this very good restaurant. We had to try our favorite pizza from years gone by... imported pepperoni with gorgonzola cheese. It was fantastic. I wll definitely return on my next trip to have his outstanding chicken parmesan.

Tony was looking good as always....Pura Vida

Yeah I know--Here I go, hijacking a Thread. Here's a restaurant guide to CR that doesn't list either of the 2 venues but may be of help:

Good evening gentlemen,
From your reviews it sounds like Il Ritorno would be a nice change from "gulch food". I'll be in SJO in October. Can anyone give me a location of the resturant. Something the cab driver would understand.
Thanks
Bobshere

As stupid as this sounds, tell them it is near the Italian American Club, by the Kentucky Fried Chicken.
