Rod "The Mod" Stewart started as a raspy-voiced soul singer...and has a new album out called Soulbook that's pretty good. He is very polarizing--love'm/hate'm--there's not much in between.
see these for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd5vvoWcQ4A and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY8AUVZ3 ... re=related <<this from Dancing with the Twits, er, Stars
And just to get totally silly--Doesn't Smokey Robinson have blue eyes? Or at least blue-grey?

Here's another one--Nikka Costa. I've mentioned her 4 other times on the Board. 2 examples:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyeoW4ifNik
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiI_caFfquA

Unfortunately her best song which always gets a good audience reception is not YouTube friendly--it's called "Eating P*ssy".

Brother LaDiablo--Are you sure we're not twins sons of different mothers? Our tastes are so alike, it's eerie.

Gary Brooker of Procol Harum singing "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" in his mature years is Baroque-obscure soul if it's anything--just imagine Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joey deFrancesco or Akiko Tsuruga workin' that tune on the B-3--OMG.
Edgardo Cintron is a Philly-local Latin artist (though he's played everywhere including cruise ships) however he had an '05 recording called "Back in the Day" featuring those fine Philly Blue-eyed soul artists called the Soul Survivors doing classic soul songs with their singing over Latin beats. Not to be missed--I have it on "high repeat" which means listening 2-3 times a month. If you are a fan of Latin music OR soul, you'll want a copy. And, hey, TURN IT UP.
No vids from Sr. Cintron's session but here's 2 in strictly Latin outings: First is a killer perf of Black Magic Woman/O Ye Como Va in a club:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpEbAwffE-k
Next, doing a version of Dizzy Gillespie's classic, Manteca on a float with dancers:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13S-bEUpJBE
Quite charming.

Here's one of the new generation of British soul singers, Adele, from 2008:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGwH-x4VoH8

plus a pretty much forgotten compatriot of hers from the 60's, Cilla Black:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZury-SGt_g&feature=related

and another Brit, Lisa Stansfield, singing with "The Man", from the late 80's early 90's:

and, finally, a couple of guys who pretty much made the Stax Sound, Steve Cropper & Donald 'Duck' Dunn:

Ashamed to say I'd never heard of Adele which I will soon rectify); the http://www.allmusic.com review is ecstatic though:
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=am ... fuxzlhldae
Lisa Stanfield hasn't put out many CDs but here's a review of one of the better ones:
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=am ... foxqq0ldje
And finally a review of Teena Marie's '09 offering Congo Square:
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=am ... foxzu0ldje

I have offered these reviews for the words and also for the click-throughs AllMusic has to clips of songs.

I think of him more as a guitarist in a blues power trio, but, hey, we're nothing if not expansive here. AllMusic sure likes him:
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=am ... qy5ldfe~T1

Not trying to run in a one-up game but there's a terrif singer/bad-ass harp-player who's getting to be an excellent songwriter too--John Nemeth--from that blues hotspot, Boise, Idaho. I'm really hip on this guy:

Another one to listen to with an eye/ear to future growth. As with Mr. Nemeth there's been substantial growth disc-over-disc, especially in the writing--"Back in the Day" with few cliches--it's like both these cats invented the genre (the same is true, I find, with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings): http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=am ... ftxz9kldae
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu-xgmf3WwM << this song is near-and-dear to my heart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obt32UrEjAg << at a terrif festival in N. Jersey

NOTE: a big shout out to Amazon's recommendation algorithm--they listed quite a few others--but I only talk about what I've heard, not what I've heard about.

I always thought his brother Jimmy Vaughan was better overall--never did cotton to that adenoidal voice of Stevie Ray--beastly good guitar and pretty good songwriting though. Another one that died in an aircraft crash.
Dusty in Memphis is one of THE certified soul classics. As it comes out in the interview portion of a DVD she did, she had some kind of rotten personality--even dissed the Queen on stage.

Let me revisit Mick Hucknall to present this tune and accompanying poignant video. If you've gotten this far in this Thread, it'll get to you:
