So if you are shopping for quality apples, why not go where you can find the better availability, service and price? Well, maybe there is something uniquely desirable to you about the Costa Rican apple that you personally enjoy. Well cool. Disfrutalo!

Aha! Therein lies the crux of the issue.

Some of us think apples are apples anywhere you go. They view apples as a commodity that only differ in terms of skin quality and price.

If that indeed is the case, then it stands to reason you might want to travel far and wide to find the best apples at the lowest prices. And that's great!

However, some of us like to go back to the same apple trees over and over again, because we like the taste of the fruit from those trees.

The trees like us as well and act differently with us than with other apple pickers.

Like waving its branches with great enthusiasm and droppng loads of apples after we stroke them for a while.

Or giving us extra apples for free.

Or even finding us apples from other trees when these trees' apples are overripe.

Or picking up their roots and accompanying us to social events and places just to spend more time with us.

How do you like DEM apples?

;)

I like DEM apples MH...

But you probably know that apple consumers in other localities get the same "perks"

No, I don't know that ALL apple consumers get the same perks. I think SOME apple consumers, who are connoisseurs of the art (such as yourself) get them -- nay. EXPECT and get them.

I think others would LIKE to get them, and I think most consumers don't even know what they are missing. ;)

Each of us must individually hack our way through the forest on the way to the apple trees....

Each of us seeks guidance. Some very little, close to none. Others perhaps, too much.

When all of us face the apple tree, we do it alone. Like death.

It is ultimately a very existential and personal matter...

Costa Rica is perhaps the best place I know to face the apple trees for the first time. It is easier in CR and good for newbies.

The Dominican Republic, as an example, will eat newbies alive. More so then CR.

Costa Rica is the bunny slopes. Once you master them....you could become bored quickly

Some people are content cruising the bunny slopes.

Some people cruise the bunny slopes and enhance the experience by doing "tricks" on them...its fun.

But the proof in the pudding is that if you looked at who was posting on this board say. four years ago, and see how each of these individuals grew as hobbyists, you will find that the overwhelming majority have moved on to other, better, venues

some however, remain stuck, albeit contently, in their costa rica rut

While I am a card carrying member of the CRS Club I don't think its a rut. I think its a comfort factor. Its easy and you know for the most part what to expect. Don't get me wrong, no matter where ever you are in the world there are unknowns but in CR you can almost script the encounter. Its easy, it's familiar, and to guys that escape the US a few times a year its comforting.

Another monger who I respect told me once these words of wisdom, "We take once in a life time trips several times a year". After a few trips like that we grow bored, we are looking for the next high, the next adventure, the next new place. We want and crave new experiences. I can go back to CR and while I bitch and moan while I am there I always have a good time but I always wish I was someplace else. I feel comfortable enough but not in a way that makes me think this is where I want to be 24/7. There is too much I haven't seen and too much that I want to see that stops me from saying this is it. This is where I want to call it a day and die in.

For you guys that love CR I leave it to you. If you are happy then go for it. No need to defend it. I fought Cujo about it for a long time when I realized that its his thing, not mine. He's happy and he's not me. If this is what you want, then go for it. Who am I to stop you and who am I to gauge your happiness. To me, its the same shit but different day. The faces change but the bullshit remains the same. This pretty much goes for any place on Earth but its what flips your switch is all that matters. If CR rocks your world and you don't want to see more of the world then go for it. To me, there are more places to see and more faces to see. The bullshit tends to stay the same but at least the location is new. To quote Lynyrd Skynyrd, "They call me the Breeze. I keep blowing down the road". There is always a new road to go down.

Er, and your also 4 years older  :P

But I agree and disagree. I don't think its a rut or a comfort factor. Its just about not
hating on CR.. :|

Its not like those who enjoy CR "think its the best venue ever"... (let, me take a duh pill)

Its just CRs represents the sort of hating that's unattractive and make those appear bitter. Is this the case? Who knows, but it sure comes off that way..

So its not the defense of Costa Rica as much as its acknowledging the hate for it..(CRS)
