Is there a dress code?--YES. You have to have on at least a jockstrap though preferably more when venturing into the SL bar area. Other than than that--run what you brung, Brother

...Also keep in mind ... if your in the traditional gulch spots like SL, Del Rey, Key largo, etc ... the more you look like a million bucks ... guess where negotiations have a greater tendency to start with the ladies ... ATLEAST Cien. And they won't be so quick to come off that knowing that you look like a million bucks and all they want is 100 ... and they know Daddy Warbucks will be more then willing to let go of this little drop in the bucket

Now conversely, its not necessarily the opposite, but if you look like "Vacation Joe" they will still try to start negotiations higher, but when you give your standard line of why your not paying CIEN ... they for the most part will more rapidly come down, with less pushback, to the reasonable standard price range.

Again... you are always equipped to say no...remember...it is your deal to negotiate...not theirs.

Now, outside hoochie central ... being a Dapper Dan will surely get you attention, but thats like anywhere ... you look like a million bucks people will notice you. In a non-pro environment I am sure you open up more possibilities depending on the setting your in.

For me, being neat and comfortable does it ...I dont need to look like Thirston Howell III in a place where quite frankly the woman are in hoochie gear and I'm the consumer and I am choosing them...they are not necessarily choosing me.

ZZ Top said "Women go crazy over a sharp dressed man..." but in the gulch...they may take notice, but trust me ... if you dont have the right money...there will be no honey!

Again...Relax & Enjoy

Just be yourself man...if that means you want to look like a dapper Don for a few nights cool...if not, cool...

I dress the same as I would here in the states. Any notion that looking nice makes you a target for a higher asking price is a bit unfair to me. A chica is going to determine her asking price based on what she thinks you will pay her. So clothes are just a microcosm of things determined by indy's on what she will charge you.

Reminds me of the old saying, " does this shirt make me look fat?"

No, your face makes you look fat :|

Well, if you never leave the Del Rey or SL, then yeah, be "comfortable" and dress like the typical gringo tourist dumbass fool. However, if you leave those places, then you really should show some respect for the local culture and dress something like they do. CR, like most of Latin America I believe, is rather conservative in dress. Shorts, flowered shirts and flip-flops are considered strictly beachwear, or K*ds' clothing. A saying I picked up about San Jose is "just because it's a tropical country doesn't mean the whole place is a beach". Notice how a lot of the chicas are wearing jeans. Even in Rio, while the locals wear next-to-nothing on the beaches, they all dress up at night for the clubs.

On my trips, I always wear lightweight pants, I particularly like REI's Sahara cargo pants. Made of nylon with a linen-like weave and feel that dries quickly, they're great travel wear and have a high sun-protection factor, making them my hiking pants as well. I never wear shorts anywhere or anytime, too low class for me. For CR, the shirts I wear are lightweight short-sleeve button sport ones in darker colors.

Ah yes, perfect for those rainy times! The Salomons I wear have this quick-lace drawstring-like thing instead of normal laces, easy-on/off, perfect for MP's. :D :D

...Because (1) there's occasionally new info presented and the more likely answer (2) it's a great way for Brothers to swat at each other.

E321--I didn't take your post as busting and it was the second part I was emphasizing anyway. Also I try to keep in mind that there's always new guys joining who not be inclined to search old Threads. So...even if it bores the puppy stuffings out of the Old Sweats, some things deserve a fresh airing. Agree thoroughly that all this is a re-hash.
