Hello CRT Members,

I was wondering about the prices in Costa Rics. I know the currency is Colones. They come in 5, 100, 1000, etc. But, my question is what can you buy for 5 colons, 100 colones, etc. You know in dollars $5 can buy you a value meal from McDonald's. The exchange rate is 1=465 currently. What can I buy for 500 Colones for my $1.

Lmoe75,

The current exchange rate is 463 colones to 1 dollar.

As you can see not much you can buy with 10 colones.

You can buy small candies at any "pulperia" for 25 to a 100 colones.

Bus rides range between 100 to 200 in the city.

and other examples were given by other members.

my two cents

Mente

Cerveza is the translation for beer in Spanish.

The local beers are Imperial (most Popular)

Pilsen.
Bavaria regular, light and dark
Rock Ice
Heineken (made here)

The prices range between $425 colones to $950 or even higher.

Price at KL/DR and news cafe is around 950 colones
Tico bars between 425 up to 600 colones.
Price at market is around 226. Glass bottle or 326 tin.
