Hi Guys,

Just got back from SJO and am thinking of taking another short trip there soon. If so, I'll likely take a lady friend of mine to Jaco for a few days. I am wondering whether it makes more sense to take a van/shuttle service to Jaco or rent a car for a few days (given the new, quick road). I have no desire to drive around once I get to Jaco, so just looking for the most inexpensive and fast way to get to Jaco (without taking the typical locals bus!). Any recommendations would be appreciated.

CL

I'm surely not scared. Problem is I am aware of the size of a local bus and at 6'2" and 260 lbs, I'm not going to fit!

Have no idea of your financial situation (and don't want to) but have you considered a Nature Air or SANSA flight to Quepos then a 1-hour cab ride to Jaco? Just trying to give an alternative--great way to see the scenery.
BTW Jaco really needs some kind of airport even as close as the new highway brings them.

That new guy who works security at the SL, Kelvin, has a pretty sweet van. I think he quoted me $90 to Jaco. I wouldnt mind that, due to the van has A/C, a tv, and comfy captains chairs. Plus Kelvin is a cool dude and will take care of you. My .02.

...Split that price 4-5 ways and it becomes doable indeed. What's his waiting time price, so you can get back? + hotel and his meals of course.

I ended up booking the Costa Rica Shuttle. I arrive in SJO at 11:30 a.m. So rather than wait at the airport, I'm headed into town and the shuttle will pick me up at La Amistad at 3 p.m. to go to Jaco. I am returning to San Jose two days later on the 5 p.m. shuttle with pick-up at my hotel. The cost each way is $30. With a group you might find private transportation that make more sense. But for me, this sounds like it will work fine. Will report back on my experiences.

Your scheduling sounds fine, especially your first trip. I'd drop the bags at your SJO hotel and go immediately to your MP of choice to get that nuisance nut out of the way (I figure you have maybe 1-1/2 hours in the Gulch, after Customs and the drive into town).

Actually that would be $30 PER PERSON. Since there is you and your chica that would cost you $60 total each way. And since you have to head into town and wait to be picked up at the Amistad that could be another $20 for you to get into town or $80 total the day you arrive. If SL Kelvin can pick up your chica for you, he probably drive out with her to meet you at the airport as soon as you get through customs and then you all could drive direct to Jaco from there, all for only $10 more than it would cost you the way you're currently proposing it PLUS you could get to Jaco by 3:30 or so in the afternoon instead of 7 in the evening. And you could still use the shuttle if you want for the way back to SJ 2 days later. That's just another way to consider.

Didn't mean to imply that it was $30 for both. It's $60 for both, assuming she doesn't fall through (I don't expect that). This is a good idea. I pay $9.50 from the airport to the hotel. I guess my thinking was that I could get some quick lunch and perhaps another kind of quickie before leaving for SJO with the girl. Have to think about it.....as you are right, it would only be about $20 more to have him drive me to Jaco....and could get there earlier. Hmmmm......

Anybody have an e-mail address or phone number for Kelvin at the SL? If not, I imagine I could just call the SL, but I'd rather contact him directly.

Thanks.

I'd go ahead and contact the SL for his contact info--Brother True Sportsman doesn't let bozos hang around and is pleased to help Brothers with true scoop. Otherwise look at the "List Dependable Drivers..." Thread in this Forum--every one affirmatively mentioned will do you right. We're truly about everybody here having a righteous experience, however you which to structure it.
