I love romano cheese - the kind from Italy, not the fake Frankenstein Kraft krapola. It's one of my favorite stinky cheeses. I put it on pizza, spaghetti, lasagna, it goes great with any food with a tomato base.

Best pizza in the country by far is Cheweys in Playa Herradura, near Los Suenos. Authentic NY style. Don't order more than a large for 3 or 4 people, it is massive and authentic.

I found a place called Romo's Pizza, a few blocks up the street from Sudamer Apartments. Best pizza place I've been to so far here, they have the thin crust NY style, and its kinda crispy, which I like. Probably a few colones more than most places, but well worth it.

Far be it from me to question a Brother but I Googled "Romo's Pizza" and only came up with "Tony Roma's". Is that what you meant? Inquiring minds (and hungry stomachs) wish to know.

Based on the location he described "a few blocks up the street from Sudamer Apartments" definitely not Tony Roma's. As valuable a resource as Google is I doubt that they have a very comprehensive listing of every mom & pop establishment in Costa Rica.

In a Thread on a similar topic, Brother Mr. Las Vegas had mentioned a small chain called Pan e Vino, which has a San Pedro location. Anybody got the 411 on this place? All locations have gotten excellent reviews in TripAdvisor.com and elsewhere.

Pan e Vino is ok not great. They have locations in Rohrmoser, Terra Mall, San Pedro, Escazu and I believe others.

I would not make a special trip to eat there.

Agree with BK. There pizza is okay. They sure are popular though as every location I know of gets crowed at lunch and dinner time.

I think la Fábrica which also has several location is better. However, like the U.S. I think many mom and pop operations are better then the chains. For example Cerro's in San Antonio de Escazu is far better then Pan y Vino or la Fábrica in my opinion.

Cerro's is my favorite. It is a hike up there and you think you are in a Tico dive bar, but the pizza is excellent.
