I forgot to write about this on my last trip in January. On the flight to SJ there was no music or movies. Continental now has a Pay Per View setup on the planes. You swipe your card for whatever music tv show or movie that you might want to see?

On the flight back passengers were giddy at thought of watching or listening to music and movies for about six bucks. Some offered up their cards begore we could taxi and liftoff from the runway! After we were in the air for about 30 minutes it seemed. All those that had paid were glued to their screens waiting in anticipation of what was to come? Nothing came! WTF? Soon after the pilot came on and informed all passengers that the reception of Pay Per View was not available until within 200 miles of the US coast. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which means you can watch or listen to pay per view the first 200 miles of your flight or the last 200 miles of your flight?

Thats just phucking great! I think I will purchase another portable dvd player for my flights!

Thanks Continental/United

That is strange??? When I flew in March it was free and it worked the entire flight? (both ways) 25 plus movies, Old TV shows, music, Games and more? It was in the head rest in the seat in front of me and had the swipe area for a credit card but, it was free? A big change from the older version where there is one monitior every three or four rows and depending on where you were seated you either had a sore neck having to look striaght up or not being able to really see the screen four rows ahead of you.

Have others gotten free or have you had to pay?

I guess I will find out my answer next week when I arrive again. Free or not I will be glad to be on the plane Goinging South Soon!!!!! yeah!

The passengers that paid for the service on my flight were highly pissed.

Not only was it a scam. When we started our final decent it was about when satellite reception started. Sabine Pass,Texas ,Sabine Lake area east coast of Texas! About 20 30 minutes from IAH. They saw about 30 minutes of snowflake filled screen grained movies, videos, shows, etc.

Maybe there was a promotion during your flight or they were still showing the movies through the old system where everyone has to watch the same movie? During my flight it was as I stated. It sucked!

200 miles and no reception after that! The flight is like 1500 mile?
Got to have the technology to fix this? Chime in pilots? Help me out here?

50

I used it/paid for it a couple of weeks a go on a early morning flight from Houston to LA. It worked just fine for me. Watched Mike & Mike on ESPN and some fishing shows. Thanks for the heads up 50, I am going to CR next week and would have been one of those guys who probably bought it before we took-off.

I had it on one flight, but they told us in advance that direct tv would only last for about 200 miles, after that it would be recorded shows. On the way to SJ they charged 6 bucks, on the way back it was free.

Free for first class! That answers all my questions?

What about the 200 mile from the US reception limit. Even if you are in first class and somehow receive satellite tv for free you only recieve it for the first 200 and the last 200 of a 3000 mile round trip? Just thought I would broche the subject.

Im not concerned anymore.

Just bought a portable dvd player and I will prolly bring a sack lunch on the upcoming flight too!

Two words:

Ipod Touch :P

I never leave home without a load of audio and video podcasts on the Ipod.
