I'm guessing.. but I wanna say that this place looks like a spot I wandered into closer to ave central if not on ave central. It's in a small shopping mall kinda like a mini Mercado central, but not a quarter as big, maybe 10 stores tops. There is a bunch of small souvenir shops as you walk deeper in the mall area that sell wood crafts and t shirts. You can see the cigars from the shops front window from the street as you walk by. When I stopped in no body was working inside, then a young Tica popped in to help me. She didn't have a clue what she was talking about and I didn't either. I thought to my self how does this place stay in business. If it's the place they had a pretty large inventory, bad location though.

I would be very wary. Every single cigar shop I've walked into in San Jose has fake Cubans except the HLH and the La Casa Del Habano. I wouldn't want to buy a cigar store that sells fake Cubans.

I like the cigar shop that is a few blocks west of the Presidente. It is actually upstairs in an internet cafe. They have authentic Cubans.

HLH has been hit or miss. Their inventory and selection is not always great, and many rumors of selling fakes. I have purchased authentic Cubans there.

That shop identified by Brother Havana Mike is still in business, has a reasonable selection in a walk-in humidor (can't speak about reasonableness of prices) and is run by Eddie's Esposa--at least she identified herself that way and has herself and their k!ds as as a screensaver. As as been debated on the Board, Cuban cigars are an over-priced waste of time and money--try Nigaraguan or even Costa Rican cigars and decide for yourself--they have the added benefit of being legally importable to the US.

To each his own, but three Cuban lines stand head to head with anything from Nicaragua, Dominican Republic or anywhere else. Those being, the San Cristobal, the Ramon Allones, and Partagas. The others for me are not very good and not worth the price, but these three are whoo-boy, worth every penny. Of course, I get mine online, from overseas, for a lot less than you'd pay in the official La Casa del Habano stores in in Central America.

Sorry Brother Jazz, nothing could be farther from the truth. The quality of a good Habano does not compare. There is nothing like a great Cuban, especially when in a foregin country and having a good time. Spend the money and treat yourself, one of life's great pleasures.

I agree with K-Paxian and I also order my cigars on line and agree completely about the San Cristobal (La Punta and El Principe) , the Ramon Allones (well aged RASS), and Partagas (Seri D #4 or Seri P #2 or the Party Short).

For me, the way in which a vendor stores and preserves their Habanos in CR plays a big part in my decision whether or not to buy, even more than the price. If a Habano is over humidified, it quite often can have a funky taste as well as have a poor draw. Obviously, if under humidified, it will be dry and potentially crack or start to unwrap. If the humidor is warm, that is another sign to me that I will pass on that particular vendor. With the warm and humid climate in CR, keeping the cigars stored at or below 70 deg F is muy importante. If any cigar is exposed top elevated temperatures for an extended period, tobacco beetles can hatch and then………let's just say you don’t want this.

I think cigars are a lot like Latinas. Not all of them are good. Some look good and just don’t smoke right. But when you have one that has been crafted well and handled properly, it can be very special.

My taste for cigars run on the strong side……the kind that hurt just a little bit. For my taste, Cigars, Whiskey and sex need to hurt just a little bit to be really good.

$6 - $40, depending on where you shop. The Cohibas, Partagas, Romeo's, Fuente's, Trinidad's will be in the mid 20's-$40. And remember, no matter how tempted by the cheap price, the street vendors are not selling authentic. And even if you think some fakes still smoke well, which can be true with the right tobacco, not in CR. AVOID AVOID AVOID!
